Improved Critical feat + Weapon Master's critical increase?

Unread post by Ahku »

Hello!

Does the 'Improved critical' feat stack with the weapon master's 'improved critical' increase?

If it does I will take the extra 2 levels to get it and critical on a 12+ with the rapier (I currently critical on 15+).

If it dose not stack then that saves me from having to take the extra 2 levels for naught...

I will still go to 5th level for the 'increased multiplier' (x2 becomes x3)!

thanks,
~A

Yea they do. But you can free up a feat by using the Whetstone keen edge consumable, or Wands of Keen. Alternatively, take the feat and you don't need to worry about ever needing a keen weapon of the chosen type.

Weaponmaster increases the critical threat range by 2 so with a rapier you'll roll for a crit on 13-20 (not 12 ;) ).

The increased critical threat range is the main reason ANYONE takes Weapon Master. It sure as hell isn't the Ki Attack or Superior Weapon Focus, and even the increased multiplier is kind of "meh" taken by itself.

Also, where may one find one of them whetstones?

With the amount of builds stopping at wm5, I'm not sure this is entirely correct. Most people seem to take WM for the increased crit damage.

Correct. Weapon Master levels 6 and 7 are less important for wielders of weapons that have a large crit range already.

Multiplier for natural 18(19)-20 weapons, and crit range for x3-x4 weapons.

Whetstone (also thingy to keen blunt weapons) could be bought on the underground floor of Blushing Mermaid in the Docks of BG.

Also for 13-20 crit range, its fairly good to have Power Critical over improved critical as a feat: there is no spell to give same effect. Though some items that give Power Critical feat for certain weapons exist, they are fairly rare and mostly for weapons like "unarmed", which anyway hardly rely on crits to inflict damage.
