Disarm - Is it worth it?

Unread post by Hammer_Song »

Hi all,
I have a spare feat or two on Relnor and am wondering about Disarm. I did a bit of forum searching and read that it is mainly handy for PvP. So far I've fought plenty of monsters that wield weapons and I was thinking how useful it could be. How many mobs here are disarmable? Shouldn't all monsters wielding a weapon technically be disarmable?
Anyway, do you build gurus think it is worth it?

I actually had a working list of disarmable opponents but it was gobbled up in the recent forum transfer & modifications :(

Basically only about 40% of mobs with weapons can be disarmed (and most of those are the orcs in the Sharp Teeth Woods). Unless the devs click the 'can be disarmed' tag on a creature's blueprint, disarm is useless.

I've never used it in PvP but it can find a niche use there.

I know it's extra work for an already overworked volunteer staff, but how hard is it to 'click' monsters in pve to disarmable? Is it a long process or a relatively simple one? This feat would suit my fighter but I don't want to pick it then realise it's a complete waste.

In it's current incarnation, I assume it's not worth it?

Depends on what other options you have. I have disarm on one of my characters ( however knockdown was my first choice ). It works very well.

About changing the mobs so that they can be disarmed, I agree they should be cahnged. However hard or easy task it is, unless a dev wants to volunteer his time to make it we cannot force one to do it.

Well, I already have Improved Knockdown and Towershield Specialisation. I've got all the other so-called 'necessary' feats like Blindfight, etc. I was thinking something like Iron Will or Lightning Reflexes to help his weaker saves (probably L.R. as this is lower). Then I thought about Disarm, it could be fun and along with Improved Knockdown could reduce the repetition of a basic point-and-click pc. But again, if the weapon wielding mobs are set so they can't be disarmed, then it'd probably be a waste.

How could one learn to change the mobs in the toolset? Could anyone do it? Maybe I could help by slowly going through and changing mobs that have weapons to be disarmable. I'll admit though, my experience with creating/changing things is zero :(

You can get the Iron will and lighting reflexes feats from items or just get items with + on saves.

In your case i would say that disarm is the better choice.

Someone has already volunteered to make those changes. QC is also discussing some issues that might arise with the disarm line of feats.

Disarm has been tweaked on the server, though (my first char, Kemi, has improved disarm).

It destroys disarmable weapons on the target NPC, and cannot be used to acquire NPC weapons via Unarmed Strike Improved Disarm. Disarmable NPC weapons should never be flagged as droppable!!

When used on PCs, the disarmed weapon goes into their inventory. The only problem I can think of is if said PC has a full inventory, in which case the disarmed weapon will fall on the ground.

If you are going for Disarm, your build really needs Imp. Disarm, else the act of disarming provides an AoO for your opponent.
