Lots of Pit fiends, amongst other devils as well. Place is flat out HELL. You are not going to go stomping around in there without a few 30s. Or at least one cleric and or FvS with greater sanctuary.

Do you want the best epic gear available on the server?Nachti wrote:Is it worth it to be visited?

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but unless you are very patient and lucky, Avernus has the best end game equipment available. Only way to get better is to get a lucky RIG drop...or to spend the time needed to learn the tricks to becoming a master trader the likes of Karond, AC81 and some others...

Re: Hows Avernus?
My first run:
30 fighter build (damage), 30 Fvs (caster) had their hard moments with the FvS needing to raise dead 6 times on the fighter in one run, the Avernus bosses werent the issue.
Last week:
Late 20 cleric (balanced), mid 20 bard (sturdy) and an archer build ?? did well enough.
Pyro seems to have fun there alone with his 30 lock.
High AC, DR and/or partial displacement recommended.
A few mob types see through Ethereal (which got my FvS dead once in the first run when wards dropped).
Light blindness applies for the races that would suffer it.
A few of the mob types have pretty high AB/Damage, get them quick.
No Tiamat present yet, pheww.
If you pick up soul essence from kills you can sell them to the bartender in the tower bar for pocket change a piece.
Fun epic area, but grinding there does feel a bit cheesy immersionwise.

its a fun area.. you wont get hit with too many OMG spawns, or any groups of like 5 pit fiends within 10 feet of each other. boss type creatures are scattered about too. at least they feel like bosses because in hell... most of them are bosses.

Re: Hows Avernus?
I've ran around it twice, with another PC, without really knowing what was what.
First time about 1 minute in I was killed by small devil type (began with E?) that killed me in a single round. 50+ ab and hit me twice in melee for 125dmg each. I remember in the fugue I couldn't stop laughing when I checked the combat log, Pit Fiends are pussy-cats compared to those things.
Second time we had Great Sanctuary up so could at least explore a little, but didn't find the store. Did find a boss (I think) in a cave, 45ab wasn't enough to hit him with (melee or ray), but he didn't hit hard as he couldn't get much past my DR either. So we just just danced around a while, a tango I think before we shared a cup of tea and a slice of cake and I took my leave
.
We ran out of Great Sanctuary at that point so logged.
After this my desire to power build a PC to rock in Avernus filled my focus, to get to that epic store.
Took me a while to shake that off, that this Epic Store in Avernus became a focal point of my character design. Thankfully though I now have shaken that off and got back to thinking more about RP and not having to optimise my PC build to survive that place.
Now I do not give two hoots about it. Sure the best stuff on the server is there and its like that carrot on the end of a stick the donkey chases, my advice though is just not to care about carrots, if you can.

Re: Hows Avernus?
i couldnt agree with BigJ more. it is a fun place and dangerous for sure, but I have never died there and I am not Powerbuilt, so not overwhelming. there is enough variety there to expose the weaknesses of most builds.
i would NOT think that designing a character based on going through there is going to be very fulfilling. go there with a couple friends or hire a few people to help you out there that know the way. go with a BUNCH of gp's so you can walk away from there with something nice.

Re: Hows Avernus?
Does anyone find it a bit laughable that PCs can just... go and kill Pit Fiends, though?
I mean, if we're taking into account that, ideally, our characters are viewed as level 15... it seems a little unrealistic even with a group. I understand it's meant to be a fun thing, and I think it's a neat premise, but can we at least admit that having people running around talking about how they've been killing the highest ranked baatezu (in their own territory, no less) is a little immersion breaking? Maybe different spawns could be used.
Just my two cents.
Edit: Just saw Munin mentioned the same thing. lol. I'll second that.

Cause the next day, sittin' round the old hat campfire at the FAI, just whittling wood and chatting about "that time I stuck my spear right up the waazuu of the Bhaatzu!."

That sounds like a great bard's song though!Steve wrote:"that time I stuck my spear right up the waazuu of the Bhaatzu!."![]()
"Come gather round children,
and let me just tell you,
Bout how I once stuck my spear,
Up the waazuu of the Bhaatzu.
The story's not long,
Though it really did hurt,
Because right in the end,
I got my own waazuu burnt"
Something like that? I can easily see that song going round the Sword Coast like wildfire!
