How to gain a title?
I remember reading somewhere on the forum that it is possible to get a title next to your name.
So far I have seen an overlord and a captain in game, so I am pretty sure it is possible.
For example, my character Hazel Jynx would like to get the title Storm Sister next to her name.
(I assume titles are only for highest ranked in a faction, but for the sake of argument)
What route would she have to pursue to become: Storm Sister Hazel Jynx

Re: How to gain a title?
I don't think this type of title is awarded.
So far,the titles that I've seen given are: Khazark, Dreadlord, Sir, Lady and Captain.
If we started allowing every single titles/ranks in names we'd have
Dawnbringer
Dread Master
Watchknight
Morninglord
Sir
Lady
Magus
Executor
Chief
Brother
Sister
Father
Abot...
Storm Sister
Storm brother
Corporal
Sergeant
Captain
Lieutenant
Matron Mother
Weapon master
Lord
There are no end to "titles" or ranks one can have in any organisations.
Also, the title has to be relevant to your character. Being a Khazark, for exemple, requires to be a Red Wizard.
Storm sister, in the lore, is a title given to Priests and priestesses of Auril.
The way the DM team grants titles is usually for guild leaders that have been around for a while fitting certain criterias.

I would contact the DM team with your request so they can give you individual feedback on specifically what the feasibility is and *hopefully* guide you on an appropriate path if your vision does not match theirs.

Re: How to gain a title?
the progression would be nice if it follows steps
for example :
lady
sir
milady
priestess
noble
captain
knight
baron
baroness
lord
Dreadlord
Overlord
Shadowlord
Duke
lets say 1 year active increase, or 6 month active can gain 1 level increase in title. would give a long term progression and oversight of what a character might become, provided the character follows the other rules and criteria that the DM wants them to be.
in real life example is certificate :
Diploma or A level took 2 years
Degree took 3-5 years
Masters will take another 2 years
Doctrate another 2-4 years
Associate professor another 2
Professor another 2
lastly Nobel prize if lifetime dedication
just my two cents on this idea ^_^

Re: How to gain a title?
Titles are usually only given when the title is worth wearing in regonition of the great lenghts you went to get there. . .
For example:
Guide of Candlekeep
Dreadlord
High Hand of Ice
War-Cheif (Orcs)
Lord / Lady
Duke
Khazark
_______________________________________________________
These are some examples of titles that require alot of time and patience to even get close to achieving. . . And once you achieve them well even then the DM's usually want you to be able to hold the title and be active with it for a few months before it is permanently awarded to you IG. Its a slow and steady process but i think its also necessary so people don't jump the gun and make a character claiming he is some High Sage of Kossuth out of completely no where.

I was just wondering how the system works.
So to get a title, you need to PM the DM team with a well thought out reason why you feel justified to earn a certain title. If you can convince them, they will then tell you what you have to do or achieve to actually earn it?
Also are names of the attainable titles fixed or is their leeway in what the titles name entails?

Re: How to gain a title?
I dont really see why X guild specific titles or organisation specific is something people are more entitled to than another. Khazark, Dreadlord, Guide or High Ice Dude is as justifiable as Storm Sister or being captain of a ship.
Edit: point being that not just guild leaders of people at the top of their organisations (self imposed as well) should be entitled or eligible for titles. Hope this is a consideration of the staff as well and these arent just an extension of a few peoples ego

That's the best way I can explain it... Sadly I am not a DM or a developer so my word / theroy is not valid.Ithilan wrote:I dont really see why X guild specific titles or organisation specific is something people are more entitled to than another. Personally I would love it if I could bare my title that I've worked for since apparently name plates are meta info anyway so even if you were to have it displayed invisibly over yiur head. . .that still doesn't mean IC your title is true or false until proven.
BUT! The DM's do have a strict rule about barring titles in your name as it's in the general rules.

I made a sneaky edit before you posted. Your hard work revolving around X guild, player, dm events is not exclusive though and that is my point.
Some people actually avoid dm events or the meta plot all together but make more memorable characters that impact many than say Huggable Joe the Village Idiot who defeated a dragon and now is known as Dragonslayer.
Im just hoping this isnt done so selectively and scarce that you have to be a complete limelight seeking bellend to even remotely be in consideration. And i think it is as justified for X player to be wanting the title of priestess as it is to their guild leader being high priestess.

Re: How to gain a title?
I think the issue is that no one really PMs the DM team to seek titles. Other than our dear Khaazark, Dreadlord and the occasional Captain of a ship we see very little in titles handed out to PCs in their names. I personally have thought about really pursuing a title for Kory not just Doombringer or whatnot that applies to my guild but a real title with lands and such that I take care of and defend and answer to whatever duke or lady that I am title holder under.....That just seems like fun. I highly encourage more people to seek out making a true name for themselves as Hazel Jynx is looking to do in the future because the only way people can believe it can happen is when people have titles more. I do not think DMs should loosen their requirements either I just believe more people should be trying to pursue these kind of RP boons because in my personal experience (get ahold of yourselves here the power grinder is about to blow your mind) the RP reward of things can be so much more satisfying than the mechanical loot you find. Probably one of my most memorable RP moments right now is RPing Kory communing with Hoar and asking for his divine guidance. As usual we have to roll percentages and for that DM low roll wins. (Joke is on that DM because the RIG hates me! I rolled a 1!!!
) A agent of Hoar arrives and first thing it does is immediately slaughter someone in the room for past transgressions that someone prayed for their death and Hoar answered since he was present through his agent....well anyway the whole point was that RP power is the ultimate power and titles and those things only come from RP. No mechanical goody you can get will compare to that RP reward that you worked hard for.
GO GET DEM TITLES PEEPS!!

Re: How to gain a title?
In my experience characters that seek IC titles are generally highly oriented towards RP, both within a guild and without. Those type of characters generally tend to rise in their guilds towards being leaders and notable members. I do not think it matters so much if you are a guild leader as much as it is that your character is influential among the PC population and drives RP. Generally guilds are a good vehicle to do that. But overall activity and drive are more an indicator than just being the top of a guild.
