A Chain Bound Grimoire - Kizhul's assorted Necromantic lore

You discover a massive libram bound with hard leather, brown and lined like venerable oak. Cracks dot its surface and two cast iron hinges have been hammered into its spine to support the enormous weight accumulated throughout entire ages worth of adjoined addendums and errata. As you heft the grimoire in your hands, you can make out Myrkul's cowled skull grinning ghoulishly at you; the image painstakingly stitched into the front cover with bits of ivory and bleached bone. Immediately, an instinctive urge to let go of the accursed item washes over you. But as the Symbol of Death woven into the tome's pages engulfs you in its sickly red light, you realize it is already too late.

Ritual of Preservation/Gentle Repose

Mix equal parts of grave dirt and holy water inside a burning cauldron and let it simmer for two candle marks. Add two crysanthemum buds and a single lily petal whilst chanting the Lord of Bones' true name over the concoction exactly seven times. Stir and add dirt as needed until the mixture turns into a fine paste, then carefully cover the deceased's forehead, arms and groin with it. Finally, place the body inside a burial slab without the lid; this will cause the corpse to remain unmarred for up to two years. Successive iterations of the ritual will not extend the effect.
