Persistent Storage

Unread post by Vogar Eol »

Just a few minutes ago, another unexpected crash happen. For me, it was probably the worst timing possible.

I was taking out a bunch of persistent storage items to sell and/or rename. At first I was saving directly after each and every item was removed from storage. Why? Because I've always been afraid of what would happen if the game crashed after the database updated, but before my character saved.

Well it happened. I got slightly impatient, and removed a good six items before clicking save on player tools. When I clicked "save" nothing happened in the log. My heart sunk.... then BOOM. A crash hit. Logging back in after the server restarted, I checked inventory. Nothing on the character, as expected. Went to FAI and checked Storage... but *poof* the items were gone.

We already have a fairly decent delay on removing an item from Storage. Could the script possibly force saves on each item removal to prevent this? That way, in the worst case, one item would get eaten on a very badly timed server crash.
