Background:
Cailan, along with his brother Myrthis became orphans after their homeland (which name or location they would rather not share with just anyone) got destroyed by a large expedition from the underdark, including both drows and duergar. To their knowledge they were the only survivors.
With their small kingdom and heritage all but lost, luck finally smiled upon them as they were rescued by a small scouting party of sun elves that, despite mostly seen as xenophobic saw not only potential in the boys, but also sensed their part elven heritage, however small, which most likely was what swayed them to show some pity.
Despite being young they showcased some truly prodigious feets, Myrthis gifted with the ease of divine magic use, while Cailan was exceptionally dextrous, and preferred to practice with two weapons at once even as a child. Their protectors not only tought them how to use their skills more efficiently, but also educated them in writing and reading, going as far as to teach them elven.
More than a year has passed as the group finally arrived in Silverymoon, which would become home for the two till early adulthood, despite the less tolerant looks they would receive sometimes. They parted ways with their temporary guardians there, only having themselves to count on now. At least to their knowledge, as some say a watchful eye were seen over them till adolescence.
Cailan however was not very fond of their new home, and often ran off into the outskirts of the city, even befriending a small settlement of wood elves, something he kept a secret to everyone except his brother.
After reaching adulthood the siblings finally split seemingly for good, as they wanted to prove they are no longer dependent on anyone, especially each other, promising to avenge their homeland one day.
Before ending up on the Sword Coast, Cailan visited much of the land, and was especially fond of the time he spent in the Dalelands, even living in Cormyr for a while.

Goals:
Except for learning about who ordered the destruction of his homeland, he wandered the lands learning of the cultures outside of their foster home, and unlike the elves affinity to magic, was always more drawn towards nature. Although most recently focused on honing his skills as a swordsman to become the best he can possibly be, he doesn't want to get overshadowed by his brother (who was not only gifted by the divine, but also one step ahead of him as a fighter as well).
It is clear that he will need all the strength he can muster if there is to be any chance of avenging his home.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
He has a short temper, and despite enjoying the peaceful nature of, well... nature, once in battle often acts unhinged and focuses entirely on winning the fight. A very prideful person, that tries to never show hesitation or doubt, however not always succeeding in that.
His eyes look very cold and to an outsider he may not seem like the nicest person to have around, but the few friends he made know that he can be relied on always, especially when the situation seems most dire.
