Magic Circle vs. Alignment

Unread post by ARHicks00 »

The spell keeps fizzing out after a minute of use. It is suppose to be an hour per level, not one minute.

Since the patch yesterday now instead you get to be this walking lightshow everytime another character enters the area of effect! I feel like my character should be giving sermons now.
"They're just furry and misunderstood."
"Is that why you are killing them?"
"Yes. They will atone in death."
"Ah. That will help them understand."

I think it also does that dread chime sound whenever someone enters and leaves. Which is... constantly, due to the relatively small aura. Not confirmed 100% but thought I heard it yesterday.

Still fizzed out for me in a tiny spot of lag. Sigh.

And now we get this instead, everytime you get in range.

Is there any.. benefit, any at all? It was already visible before. Now we get this ridiculous circus magic effect. Makes me think the point is to make it look more annoying and so have less people use the spell?

It's just to see the VFX more often as opposed to only once !

Twice a second when you have summons following you is a bit much!

Guess that's really a bad idea overall - just think of a DM event with a lot of people.
(Could this alone crash a players pc/game or even server ?)

I would like propose to remove all long time buff VFXs in general or make them as minimal as possible.

(So tired of all these walking christmas trees <:D )

I don't mind a lightshow if it actually reflects what the spell would look like. Complicated patterns that reflect nothing practical and things that just burst up for no reason one can think... not so much. It would be nice if effects were looked at, but not just for making it look shinier. All magic should not be recognizable by every yokel you pass by, or there is no purpose to the detection spells, spellcraft rolls etc. There are a lot of spells where the effects just don't make a lot of sense though, and I'm sure a lot where it could be improved on.

One other annoying thing for this effect is you get to hear that sound again... and again... and again and again and again, all the bloody time :E

Sorry, Valefort... It was better the way it was before the VFX was poked at. This gets super annoying and an eyesore in parties (or just with summons). The sound is also annoying for other players (I've that turned off though :P). Maaaybe if the aura was at least double the size, it wouldn't be so annoying but atm, its very small and party members step in & out constantly (as seen on Pimple's gif).

Aura effects are not that well suited for shifting visuals. Rescue feat for example, is super annoying for that reason as well (it does attach and detach constantly).

I made it so the circle would only pop up again on the caster instead of anyone who is entering the circle, I'll see what I can do for the sound.
