Daggerspell Mage with FLAIR!
The Daggerspell Mage thread in the Suggestions forum got my creative juices flowing. I realize this would be a beast to level, but it seems kind of fun. Does anybody have any actual working knowledge of the 'Clap of Thunder' feat? Does it work? Would my dagger damage be added to it? Does it bypass SR?

Re: Daggerspell Mage with FLAIR!
The reserve feats won't work with DSM I don't think...Though Invisible Needle might, since it works with RTA sneak attacks from Arcane Trickster. Can't look at your build from work, but in general, for an RTA sneak with DSM you could either go W6/R4/DSM10/AT10 which would have a CL of 29, or you could go W14/A8/DSM8 which would have a DL 25 and HiPS, or, finally you could go W14/R3/SD3/DSM10 (or AT10) for HiPS and CL27 (or 28 for AT).
Personally I think AT is more important for a Ranged Touch Attack caster than DSM since it allows you to apply your sneak attacks on your RTA's... R10/SD3/W7/AT10 only gets CL21, but still gets 9th level spells as well as Epic Precision as well, which, while you can't depend on not getting dispelled, you can use Invisible needle for unlimited RTA sneak attacks as well as having HiPS.
Lots of fun builds for RTA's, but IMO DSM works better as a Gish vs. just using Daggercast, and also works better with Warlock builds than Wizard (again, IMO).

DSM bonuses work with the Invisible needle... they work with RTA's and MTA's. Sneak Attack works with the spell RTA's if you have Arcane Trickster, but i cant confirm now it works also with the Needle.

Re: Daggerspell Mage with FLAIR!
Clap of Thunder is a MTA. Thus it should work... Sonic spells can be used to fuel the reserve feat: Cacophonic Burst, Shout, Greater Shout, Castigate, Energized Shield, Sonic Shield, Lion's Roar, Resonating Bolt, Sound Blast, and Orb of Sound.
Lion's Roar (Cleric) and Greater Shout (Wizard/Sorcerer) are both level eight spells. So Clap of thunder could deal 8d6 points of sonic damage. I think a Bard's Greater Shout only deals 6d6...

Clap of Thunder is the best reserve feat, it does (relatively) high damage, offers no save, and its the least protected against energy type.

For Divines Acidic Splatter is better as it goes to 9d6 and has at least a bit of range.
For wizards its 7d6 i think.

Re: Daggerspell Mage with FLAIR!
Sooooo, the entire reason I went down this stupid daggerspell Mage rabbit hole is because the OP in the other thread (Suggestions: Mechanics forum) indicated he was getting sneak damage on RTA's with his DSM/Wizard/Rogue build.
This intrigued me, and I said "So, in the class combo you mentioned above, you're getting your sneak damage added to your melee/ranged touch attacks? I guess I always thought you'd still have to take arcane trickster to pull this off. If Daggerspell Mage automatically gets his sneak damage on touch attack spells, I'm suddenly very interested in the class"
Nobody straightened me out...and here we are. What a let down.
Incidentally, the in-game description for Acidic Splatter and Clap of Thunder indicate that your sneak dice would be added to the damage dealt. Do we think this is true, or does it simply mean for AT's only?
Does anybody know if either Acidic Splatter or Clap of Thunder bypass SR?

Last i checked they will bypass SR... but that was a while ago and could be a glitch.

You need Arcane Trickster.

Where in arcane trickster's description does it say he gets his sneak attack added to touch attacks?dzidek1983 wrote:You need Arcane Trickster.

Requires 7 ranks in Lore: Arcana. Sneak Attack damage now applies to ranged touch attack spells when cast from a spellbook. The class has access to all the Lore skills.

Re: Daggerspell Mage with FLAIR!
Thanks mate.
Sounds like this only applies to ranged touch attacks from spellbooks so the feat probably should not benefit from it cause it is neither ranged nor from the spellbook?

Thread necro!
So, if you're soloing, how often to you realistically pull off the ranged touch attack + sneak attack damage maneuver with an arcane trickster? Doesn't the casting animation break your stealth, allowing your enemies to react to your presence, thus making them not be flat-footed?

How much arcane trickster does one need to get sneak damage on ranged touch attacks? I'm assuming just 1 level (I realize I'll need 3b20).
I can't quite shake wanting to play something like this. . .
