Feinting Rogue Master of Disguise

Unread post by Hrafnar »

I'm reading The Republic of Thieves series by Scott Lynch at the moment and had the urge to make a rogue based around the Master of Disguises PRC. The class also reminds me a bit of the Faceless Men from GoT :)

I used Ninja to represent MoD and built a feinter but I don't know if it's any good.

Couldn't squeeze Perfect Two Weapon Fighting in there, unfortunately. Bluff is up to 46 so with items and buffs could get to the high 60s I think, but I hear even that's not enough.

With Hell gear you can get bluff +4 in several slots (cloak, gloves, head, maybe armor and neck?) and +2/3 in other slots should be relatively easy to buy/find.

If you consider head/neck/gloves/ring/ring/belt/cloak/armor slots and average +3 per slot that is 8*3=+24 + 46 = 70. Throw in a potion of Greater Heroism and you are at 74, wand of Eagle Splender = 76 which is not bad, but it will definitely help you to get a little higher.

You could reduce DEX to ~15 or 17 and put points in STR, instead of using two weapon fighting use a shield and get higher STR. Then you can wear Mithral Chain or Mithral BP. This opens up 4 feats which you can use for Shield Bash, Shield Slam, etc. You also can replace Weapon Finesse and Deadly Defense in favor of using a bigger one handed weapon like long sword or whatever. Feinter is not like HiPSTer and shouldn't be built like one, it is more like an EDM in that you want to split up your CHA and STR. Since you don't need as many feats if you don't need to support getting Perfect TWF you could consider Half-elf which only loses a feat, no skills on this server and will give an additional +2 Bluff.

Just a few thoughts to maximize your feinting ability.

No actually, this is great! Moving away from more traditional rogue gameplay makes him more of a disguiser!

Okay so I followed your suggestions. Three of the four spare feats have been spent on Shield bash, charge and slam... but I'm unsure about the fourth. Shield focus could improve my AB and DMG, whereas Shield specialization gives me +1AC. Taking TWF would also reduce my penalties on shield bash, correct? I'm unsure about what to spend that fourth feat on, basically, so I picked ICE but I'm not sure if my AB will allow for it.

Also, how are the base-stats? I'll walk around with 18 DEX and 16 CHA, unless I find a +4 CHA item. I could drop CON to 10 to get base CHA to 15, however I end up with about 190 HP.

I think the base stats are fine as they are. Little more HP is always better.

Cheers, gonna roll him up later and see how we go. Haven't really played around with disguise mechanics at all so should be fun.

Just be careful when renaming things.

Why's that? Something can go wrong?
