Unusual Familiars?
Hello!
Is there any way to get an unusual Familiar for my wizard?
I've got a PnP wizard who has an enchanted steamer trunk that follows him around to carry all of his stuff in...He calls it 'Luggage' (got the idea from some obscure movie i think).
Is there anyway to do this in NWN2?
Maybe a summoning item for a mimic that i could use as a RP prop?
I think it would be great fun!

Yes, the movie was The Colour of Magic (Terry Pratchett) worth seeing if you like the novels.
Some people say if you can't do something right, don't do it at all...I say maybe you just need more practice...?

Re: Unusual Familiars?
Keep in mind that while I'm pnp the DM just has to have that familiar on paper or in the top of his head while here it needs to be programed
.
Btw what's up with that familiar spell of the first level... It doesn't seem to do anything.

Re: Unusual Familiars?
Pending possible changes
Each familiar needs 15 blueprints though so don't expect lots of those (or do the blueprints yourself, it's nothing hard just extremely tedious). Also as K'yon indicates the creature models have to exist in NWN2.

Re: Unusual Familiars?
This update for Familiar options is great!
As the video seems to show, picking a Familiar is done via a Feat. Does that mean, if and when implemented, it will not require an RCR to setup a new Familiar??

Re: Unusual Familiars?
Yeah, it's a free feat that will be given to every sorc/wizard at logon, I removed the spell find familiar from wizard/sorc spellbook and made it a feat instead as you're supposed to only need a ritual to bind a familiar.
If you want to take an improved familiar (for now pseudodragon, faerie dragon or stirge) you'll need to take the adequate feat. They all have exactly the same stats, which is not correct by lore but at least there will be no power reason to pick one over another.
@roke Chicken familiar is possible if you want

Re: Unusual Familiars?
Val,
Will this be based on the PnP rules, or BGTSCC custom rules for the "power level" of the familiars?
I.e. levels for familiars are based off of pure caster level for wizard/sorc?

Chicken familiar...
Snake has been one wished for, so I hope that is added!
Just a note about the improved familiars...
Pseudodragon - NG, communicates telepathically, animal noises otherwise
Faerie dragon - CG, draconic, sylvan, elven IE can speak
Stirge - Neutral, cannot speak
From an RP viewpoint stirge seems a bit boring?
Would an imp or something else be possible? If I'm using a feat for it, it would be neat if I could make it talk without being good-aligned!
This link has a lot of stuff gathered, some ridiculous... may serve as inspiration?

Something I am curious about though, is how will these improved familiars differ from others?

Re: Unusual Familiars?
@ Hawke custom, they're not combat creatures, I merely made those improved familiars more survivable with a bit more HP and a bit more AC, that is it.
@ Glowfire, yes others will eventually be added but not now, it's incredibly boring to do.

Is this a convincing request for an imp familiar?

Re: Unusual Familiars?
So total levels of pure sorc/wiz do not matter? Just confirming
