I've noticed that my character is recieving less xp per kill same mobs than the same level other PC in a group with me.
I've also noticed that I'm not getting the full experience rewards from turning in Quests. See below.
Is this a bug or a "Feature"... cos if it's the latter.. thats a little hard to swallow. Especially seeing as Death XP Penalty is still FULL 100x/level.
Oh and XP from RP is penaltied as well....

Yes there is. You get an XP penalty for having more than one base class, that isn't balanced. So like fighter 4/thief 6 would have a 20% penalty. This is not a bug to my knowledge at least, as it is a penalty for taking multiple base classes. My main character is a Drow with a 20% XP penalty. Leads to levels taking forever. You seem to be in this specific situation, as the XP exchange(your friend getting 500 and you getting 399 as an example) is identical to what occurs to my main character.

Do you have more than one base class that isn't your races favored? For example fighter 3/ rogue 1 on a wood elf... this incurs a 20% xp penalty. each race has a favored class that ignores the penalty only for that class.
halfling, F4, Monk 1. Just noticed on NWN2 wiki, multi class penalty. I'm guessing this is what this is. It has to do with favoured classes.
seems a bit unfair that even RP xp and Quest xp gets applied to this rule too.

DM XP too. It is a malus on all XP you can gain. Makes it interesting for people who do not know about it when a DM asks something like "Did everyone get 500 XP?"
Heh, yep, was just in an event and got 1599xp... from what i imagine was 2000xp.
Which I guess brings me to the validity question of multiclass penalty.
Why is there a multiclass penalty... at all? I don't understand why you'd have one in place?
I know it's a NWN2 mechanic and not a BGTSCC specific mechanic.

To my knowledge it is rules from pnp.
Edit: Yes, Yes it is. I am grabbing a screenshot of the excerpt right now. Best way to explain it is with their own words. I'll make a new post for that.
Cheers for sourcing that. Looks basically similar to what's on the wiki page.
But in summary... why does it exist?
In the wording it mentions that a character maintaining skills in more than one class is a demanding process, and may take its toll on the character. I'm assuming this is the "RP purpose".
I too wonder if the mechanic is in place to "tax" multi classing characters, in the theory they should have advanced abilities? In effect... it acts like an ECL modifier?

Only for base classes. Prestige Classes don't penalize you that way. But they have other requirements.
Human and half elf/half drow: the highest base class is favoured, thus you can have two base classes without xp penalty.
For other races you have to check their info.
Truman Capote, Breakfast At Tiffany's "... - it's better to look at the sky than live there. Such an empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes and things disappear."
I think it was basically a patch when they got rid of the old system of Multiclassing/Dualclassing that was in 2e.
What that was, was a multiclass always had the levels of one character's class at least 1 from another, and the classes would have their XP split evenly among their taken classes... Only a multiclass was done at level 1.
What was a dual class is more similar to what is now a multiclass, which is letting someone take another base class after a certain number of levels, only the restriction in that case was that the character could not use the abilities of their previous class until both were the same level, and would never again gain experience in that first class. There also were no prestige classes, only base and subclasses so.
It is also a balancing mechanism to avoid multiple dips with min maxed race choice. However, primarily it advances the ideas of races being predisposed to certain classes from 2e. The race can afford to multi task when they're already predisposed to one class, otherwise it is difficult to manage.
Mmm, it's been interesting learning.
Thanks everyone for adding their pieces to the puzzle.
