Planar Cohort Issue

Unread post by Alex Creed19 »

It seem Planar Cohort doesnt work with planar ally at the moment. (Cleric Spell) when ever i call a planar ally and a summon creature right after eachother, only the planar ally disappear after a while, while the summon creature remains, planar ally has a 60sec/lvl while the Summon creature has a 1min/lvl but since i got the planar cohort feat they both should stay at my side and only disappear if i rest or a dismiss or banish spell is used against them. Not when their time is up.

Hi Alex, thanks for the bug report.

There are several things in play here. First, I think you have misunderstood the planar cohort feat. You will only ever have one cohort which will stay with you until you rest. Any other summoned or called creature after you have called the cohort will not be a cohort but rather a normal summoned or called creature remaining only for the spell's duration.

The second thing is that the summon creature line of spells have wrongly been included in the planar cohort system. That is a bug that will be fixed next update.

I hope this solves the issue for you. Otherwise let me know.

This isn't a bug. They were included after a QC discussion, during the class design & testing.

You could make a case that cirucmstances have changed since then. Because the summon-options menu was implemented. And the calling choices have been greatly extendend. They scale now too. :)

So it might be okay to change it. But run it by QC first.

I can tell you that while Planar Binding spells are fun, and the options are great, they aren't real valuable in a fight even buffed to high heaven. Perhaps it is the fault of alignment here, as a LN caster my options are either very good or very evil so the only ones that fit well are mechanically inferior (by far) with the Jann being the same statistically between lesser planar binding and planar binding.

My advice, for what it is worth, is to keep it as-is until the planar binding spells can be more fully fleshed out in regards to alignment, and perhaps re-evaluated power-wise across the three different versions of the spell.

Right now the only viable cohort is a summon spell. If that is removed it will be RP flavor only (not a bad thing, but also a big change).

The calling spells now scale creatures to the spell, so your planar binding should give you a stronger Jann. But you are right there still is a clear lack of neutral choices. We will look into that.

Well as long as you are looking, may I please recommend keeping with the genie-kind theme for the neutrals, or elemental type beings perhaps?

Another type of Jann, a Qorrashi, or a Khayal all sound like they would use humanoid type models that are available (perhaps with some creative color/shading).

I know its a pain to build them out, but if you are looking at the gap for neutral characters - those are my suggestions!

I've used the shadow mastiff to great success it got an absurd AB and 3 attacks with sneak attack are quiet meaty for the level you get the spell.

I don't have access to it.

There probably are some decent ones. The name escapes me but the steel devil, Buerza or something like that, it seems decent.

But the neutral planar beings are lacking, per Nachti's own statements. He was moving I think, so I am sure it will get fixed up and fleshed out eventually. I just hate to see changes to the cohort/summons relationship until that point.

Elemental humanoid neutrals for consideration:

Efreet (Fire, CN/CE) - Efreet are genies of the Elemental Plane of Fire. They have a strong hatred of servitude, desire for revenge, and cruel nature. Efreet are infamous for their ability to grant wishes to non-genies, and the malicious ways in which the wishes asked of them are fulfilled.

Djinn (Air, N/NG) - Djinn are genies native to the elemental plane of air. They disdain physical combat, preferring to use magical powers to defeat their foes. Should they find themselves over matched they transform into a whirlwind and attempt to flee.

Marid (Water, N/CN) - The marid are genies of the Elemental Plane of Water, as difficult to control as the ocean itself. They enjoy hunting for sport, gathering pearls, and capsizing mortal ships. While generally the strongest of the major genies, they often care little for the rivalries and wars of the rest of genie-kind, only interfering with other domains in occasional raids to remind the dao and efreet of their strength.

Dao (Earth, N/NE) - Dao are genies of the Elemental Plane of Earth, having little sympathy for anyone but themselves and their profits. They strive for wealth as merchants and miners, lying, stealing, and killing as they require for greater places of power. Their empire is based upon one of the richest regions of gems and precious metals in the entire plane, and travels outside of this region are almost always motivated by a desire for material wealth.

Jann (All Elements, LN/LG) - The jann are the weakest of the genies. Formed from all four elements, they spend most of their time on a prime material plane. They are physically strong and courageous, and do not take kindly to insult or injury.

Khayal (Shadow, CN/NE/CE) - The origins of the Khayal are shrouded in mystery. Some old tales tell of a tribe of genies that, in the first days of creation were left out in the cold (figuratively speaking) when all the other tribes staked their claims in the Inner and Prime Material Planes. So, with nowhere else to turn, these outcasts took up residency in the Plane of Shadows and nursed an eternal resentment toward their other kin (particularly the Jann of the Primes). Others theorize that the Khayal are simply a natural byproduct of the Jann much as the Plane of Shadow itself is a mirror of the Prime Material. Whatever the case, Khayal generally work to hinder or spite other genies and do make their homes in the Planes of Shadow. Khayal society (the center of which being the City of Onyx) is built on a web of secrecy and lies, and some hold to the tradition of granting favors to any mortal that can actually catch them out in a lie.

Here are a few more. There are playable races for some of these on Sigil, so there must be some sort of model or modification of existing for them?

Qorrashi (Air, LN) - Qorrash were elemental creatures native to the Plane of Air. They had blue skin, which was always covered in thick frost, because a perpetual aura of bitter cold always emanated from their bodies. They had white hair. Males were often bald and sported fancy goatees; females wore their hair long. A typical qorrashi stood over ten feet (300 centimeters) tall and weighed about half a ton

Azers (Fire, LN) were elemental creatures native to the Elemental Plane of Fire and Elemental Chaos. Azers were created by fire titans and fire giants, whom they often served. Others, however, lived free and worked for their own benefit. Azers resembled their ancestors, the dwarves, but with brass-colored skin and hair, their hair and beards being comprised of flames. Azer bodies were so hot that their weapons conducted heat, so much so that any creature within reach of an azer was injured by the intense heat. Many azers wore kilts of brass, bronze, or copper.

Githzerai (Extraplanar Humanoid, Limbo, LN) - In eons past, the mind flayers enslaved entire races, including the human forerunners of the githzerai. Centuries of captivity bred hatred, nurtured resolve, and finally instilled psionic powers into these slaves. Githyanki average more than 6 feet tall and weigh about 160 pounds, and tend to dress in drab, unadorned clothing. As a rule, githzerai are close-mouthed,keep their own counsel, and trust few outside their own kind. They dwell on the plane of Limbo, secure in the protection of their hidden monasteries.

Was this 'fixed' already? I am not unable to have a Summon spell creature as a 'cohort', whereas it was working as of maybe a few days ago.

I understand the logic here, but until the neutral options are on par with the others in the planar line of spells, this is a decent size setback. It would have been much better, in terms of parity across thaumaturge alignments, to wait until that was sorted.

The options we have are great, but they were admittedly (by Nachti even) incomplete.

More options have already been added for neutral alignments. Unfortunately the server was updated after the summon creature spells were removed as cohorts, but before the new options were added. Unfortunate timing, but I'm sure there will be an update soon again.

Jann are available on lesser and planar binding and pretty good.

Efreeti are available on planar binding and also quiet strong, even better than Jann because they have 3 attacks.

Other suggestions would be:

Sepid (Outsider, NE)

Sepids have a gigantic humanoid frame, standing around 13 feet in height, and are heavily muscled, weighing upwards of 1,500 pounds. Their skin, calloused and covered in spines and spikes, is typically alabaster in color. A sepid's face is fiendish, and its head is ringed with a crown of four horns curved like meat hooks, and a mouth full of sharp, filed teeth. The eyes contain no iris or pupil, giving them a particularly unnerving gaze.

An angry sepid is a force to be reckoned with. Sepids are not only gifted with a powerful physique and martial abilities, but are also capable spell casters with the ability to rain down a hail of debris on opponents.

Daemon (Outsider, NE)

Daemons (pronounced DAY-mons) are among the youngest of the fiendish races, but came into existence before demons. Their existence is tied in with the existence of the mortals they prey upon. Their insidious evil is not influenced by notions of law and chaos, as daemons concern themselves only with the destruction of life itself. Daemons seek this destruction as it allows them to feast on mortal souls, which is the focus of their existence. They are creatures of the apocalypse and seek the utter destruction of all things, to plunge the Great Beyond into absolute oblivion. The daemons make their home on the plane of Abaddon, thought to be one of the most hostile planes of the multiverse.
