not getting shield bonus from shield rapier

I am a two weapon fighting, swashbuckling, dualing, tempest and when I equip my shield-rapier I do not get shield bonus from it.

Did you change its appearance ? If yes you broke the shield AC part, if not try equipping it again, sometimes it does not fire and you have to try a bunch of times.

quite possible I changed appearance on it
it shows it fire then disable then fire again but that is hard to see because tempest defense fires too. cannot tell if it is just the tempest firing or the shield. im guessing I broke it

Ask a DM to trade you a vanilla shield rapier for the appearance-changed one. They can buy them at Roaringshore if they want to just buy it off the merchant.

Unfortunately, changing the appearance of these items (and several others that have custom modifiers, as well as most vanilla charges-based items like magic staves) do seem to break the item.

I'm Prolly just gonna upgrade. I can rp that I broke it in character trying to make it more functional. Zero weapon crafting skill can do that. Lol.
