I thought there was a DM ruling but there isn't one.

Its the wildwest last I heard, Where there is no rule of law and the only rule is to not piss off the owner of the tavern mag and of course follow all pvp server rules rp outs, and the runway thing.

From lore"

The population was highly variable, shrinking to an armed camp in the winter with the decline of caravan traffic. Soubar had no formal government, which led to a lawless culture full of brigands and ruffians.

There is population/NPCs though.

I had a DM threaten me and another player about a year ago for engaging in pop within the town. Maybe something changed, or the DM didn't know?

It is probably easiest to rule against it being allowed.

There would need to be nuance in any rule that allowed it.

~Would the multitude of NPCs allow wanton violence or destructive magic to be used?
~Would any opportunistic NPCs jump in?
~Would merchants still deal with someone they saw disrupt the frail form of peace through power and respect that is currently held together?

I dont think any of those things are for players to answer alone, and there are probably a hundred other NPC-reliant scenarios that could be listed. So as far as a blanket ruling goes, it would probably go toward no PVP, or at least nothing protracted and destructive.

I would love to hear from a DM though, especially with the RP that has been held there in the past.

Laws of the Lawless in Soubar

Residents of Soubar generally will not care if combat between beings takes place outside and away from merchant stalls and commerce taking place and does not include area affecting magics or attacks.

((As long as pvp takes place between PCs only and without area affecting magics or attacks and the fighting takes place outside and away from merchant stalls and commerce, you do not need to get DM permission to have pvp take place in Soubar as long as standard server pvp rules are otherwise followed.))

haha, thanks Sputnik. Thought I saw that under a DM ruling.

I'm assuming the Winding Way counts as a place of commerce.

I'm kinda asking because drow are KoS on the surface but if a drow is browsing wares or having a drink, they can't be killed (as no PvP allowed). But if they are 2 feet too far away from a merchant they can? It is a little too vague and uncertain.

its simple still a drow on the surface, your protection ends when you see the shiny red thingy in sky. Yes immature player will attack you, but hopefully there some rp before hand.

now if the dm's wanna rule normal pvp rules apply for drow in soubar that might be a discussion to be had.

so your kos on surface- soubar is the surface

or you want pvp rules for drow in soubar to follow normal pvp guidelines on the surface and ignore/modify the kos rule.

My thinking is that if the rules say 'no PvP under these circumstances' that includes KoS PvP?

I dont think a black archer would talk to a drow befor shooting a arrow in his face...And i also think it would be immature to go out out of character and talk to a drow with your black archer just cous its a player.
They know the risk is there when walking under the sun/moon.
So it really just depends on the type of toon that sees your drow.

You can't kill a drow if it's wearing a mask because you are godmodding. Why is it any different when you are around an NPC? I've never seen a case where KOS rules trump godmodding and metagaming rules. KOS just means you do not need to give an RP out. You still need to follow the rest of the rules.

I don't think what 7threalm meant was 'talk' but RP. Something indicating some hostility so the drow player has some chance to react (might be looking elsewhere, alt-tabbed out or whatever). Not required by the rules but it is some courtesy.

I'm pretty sure Illithid and Werebeasts are KoS as well. Attacking the Drow and leaving the NPCs seems like questionable RP to me.

As a drow on the surface you should be ready for that 24-7. :)

the illithid would recognize the drow and tell everyone within range through telepathic communication that the person in the mask is a drow. proceed with the killing.

im not godmodding the illithid. it was a secret message. you just didnt hear it. the illithid doesnt like you as much as me.
