You select a target, you use the feat, the effect takes place and there's a cooldown on your feat (30s for sudden aegis). The duration of the effect can be changed but that's for QC to see.
It almost works this way, as you describe it. Or perhaps I have a different idea of what "instantly activated" means!? For me, that means clicking and NOT having to have pre-selected a Target. Click and apply, and in this case, it should apply to the Caster.
The reason why I find this problematic, is because 99% of the time, in Combat—where you'd be using this feat, while IN combat—you have the mob your PC is fighting, selected/targeted.
So in order to use Sudden Aegis, you must Right-Click your own Toon, click/button the Hotbar, then re-select the mob you want to attack. This is especially difficult when fighting multiple mobs, as the Engine will determine for you, who you should attack next, while in Combat.
So, while very busy with selecting/re-selecting, you burn that 1 round effect of 10 DR, and have almost not time to get off an Attack.
10/DR for 1 round in which you are wasting time selecting/re-selecting, is WORSE than just staying in combat, and potentially killing your foe.
Maybe what I should be asking here, is change the Target to Self, from Creature. That way, shouldn't it auto-work on the Caster, without targeting? To work like Warlock Invocations do?
Though this might seem like a lot of trouble, for one spell, it isn't just for one spell—what I'm trying to point out here can be translated to every Spell-to-Feat custom script that exists. Making all those short turn + cooldown spells VERY USEFUL, and better yet, convenient to use (which is why we all love things like EW, IK, Blazing Speed, etc).
Thanks.
