Sudden Aegis does not appear to work?

Unread post by Steve »

Have this spelled memorized on my gish, and also set on the hotbar.

When I select the spell/Feat on the hotbar, I get a circle/cursor option on screen, but it will not highlight/select a target (neither my PC nor an enemy, even if engaged in direct combat).

Am I using it wrong, or is it just not able to select a single creature?

In addition, if this spell is set as an Extended spell in the Spellbook, will it truly work for now 2 rounds, if set on the Hotbar (when it actually is working)? I really, really hope so!!

Alright, one last time. I guess no one thinks to try and use this spell, which is why no one can help out with how this spell is supposed to work (or does work)?

Cheers.

Sorry, try next update, the target type was simply wrong.

I wanted to see if the Sudden Aegis spell can still get some work.

As of the last update, it no longer is a AoE target, which is good. But based on its description, it still isn't targeting correctly.

It states Target: Creature. However, if you are in combat, and you click the spell, it REQUIRES that you Target your PC/the caster. So it requires a 2-phase click to go from attacking the enemy and the actual Target of the spell, to your own PC, then back to the foe/mob.

Can it not just apply to the Caster, if you are already Selected/Targeted/Highlighted your foe in combat? Kinda like any other offensive spell?

The second request—though I know not if even possible—is that if one sets Sudden Aegis as an Extended Spell, that it will actually extend the Spell, if you set it on your Hotbar? As of now, though I have an Extended version of the spell memorized on my toon, if placed on the Hotbar—for convenience and after-Cooldown use—it only casts for normal, and just 1 round (yes, I want 2 rounds of 10/Adamantine DR!!!!).

Thanks.

It's a targeted spell just as valid to cast on party members or summons as on yourself. This is the standard targeting behavior of that type of spell. As to the extend question, I will leave that for QC to answer.

You can ONLY target it on your own toon, now.

Which translate to the action as I described: if you have a foe (or friend) highlighted, you have to re-select your own toon, for the spell to cast, then reselect the mob, in order to fight again.

Thanks.

If you can only target yourself that's something to fix. Also since the spell is cast through a feat (unless you actually cast the spell itself, which is alaways possible) metamagics are not doable I think.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but I had assumed that these Spells that can be Hotbar'd because they turn into a Feat if memorized in the spellbook—divines also have a few—would function much like Warlock Invocations do: you click, they fire and apply the action, either automatically to the Caster (like Walk Unseen), or apply directly to the Selected Target (be it friend or foe).

This makes sense, my assumption—at least to me—because the Spell-to-Feat action is a Cooldown feat/feature. If that isn't auto-applicable in the most direct—some would say convenient way—then what is actually better, is to just place the Spell in the Hotbar, and not the Feat. Right? RIGHT?!?

If metamagic applied cannot work with how this Spell-to-Feat custom thing is working, then obviously, I have no choice BUT to hotbar the extended Spell (and forgo the Cooldown possibility).

And then, unfortunately, in my very subjective judgement on the spell itself, 1 round of 10/DR is not worth the trouble. 2 rounds is very worth the trouble, though!

Hey Val...didn't you make this Click-and-Apply feature work with True Strike, recently? Can whatever magic you used there, be transferred to the Spell-to-Feat code?? *fingers crossed*

But the feat is instantly activated, meaning you can use it and move for the rest of the round, that's the idea behind it.

You select a target, you use the feat, the effect takes place and there's a cooldown on your feat (30s for sudden aegis). The duration of the effect can be changed but that's for QC to see.

It almost works this way, as you describe it. Or perhaps I have a different idea of what "instantly activated" means!? For me, that means clicking and NOT having to have pre-selected a Target. Click and apply, and in this case, it should apply to the Caster.

The reason why I find this problematic, is because 99% of the time, in Combat—where you'd be using this feat, while IN combat—you have the mob your PC is fighting, selected/targeted.

So in order to use Sudden Aegis, you must Right-Click your own Toon, click/button the Hotbar, then re-select the mob you want to attack. This is especially difficult when fighting multiple mobs, as the Engine will determine for you, who you should attack next, while in Combat.

So, while very busy with selecting/re-selecting, you burn that 1 round effect of 10 DR, and have almost not time to get off an Attack.

10/DR for 1 round in which you are wasting time selecting/re-selecting, is WORSE than just staying in combat, and potentially killing your foe.

Maybe what I should be asking here, is change the Target to Self, from Creature. That way, shouldn't it auto-work on the Caster, without targeting? To work like Warlock Invocations do?

Though this might seem like a lot of trouble, for one spell, it isn't just for one spell—what I'm trying to point out here can be translated to every Spell-to-Feat custom script that exists. Making all those short turn + cooldown spells VERY USEFUL, and better yet, convenient to use (which is why we all love things like EW, IK, Blazing Speed, etc).

Thanks.

F1 then shortcut? Make a macro if you can't bother to deal with 2 buttons. It is not going to be caster only, as it's a party buff spell.

Fine. I'll just write this off as a spell that works much better in PnP.

BTW: Sudden Aegis does not seem to work Extended (I just tried it, and it would not apply, though it does cast, and the casting was NOT instantaneous, it was normal casting time)).

Yes, it's instantaneous if cast from the feat.
