Thrown weapons pull their target out of Ethereal
I was in a not so great PVP today (I won't name names here.) and the opponent used a thrown acid flask on me while I was ethereal. This somehow pulled me out of ethereal, and they proceeded to attack. Also, throwing the flask did not seem to pull -them- out of ethereal.

Re: Thrown weapons pull their target out of Ethereal
I haven't used ethereal much lately. From what I recall and my use of invisible, any hostile action cancels the effect. You can buff & heal yourself and even party members without issue. So, if anything, the other person should have been pulled out of ethereal for taking hostile action. And I don't see how acid would be able to pull you out of the ethereal plane.
I'd say send a private PM to the DMs about the entire incident. Unless I'm wrong, this sounds like an exploit and this other person was prepared to make use of it.
Edit: I do recall reading somewhere that one of the ways to deal with a person in the ethereal plane is to go there yourself where you are able to fight them. Maybe the staff has added a script where that is now possible but it glitched and pulled you out by mistake?

All I know is that it did not pull them out of ethereal, but it did pull me out of ethereal. Unless an extended ethereal form an epic-level caster suddenly lasts only 10 seconds. I took no actions during this time. Once I got pulled out of ethereal, I attempted to attack, assuming they were out of ethereal, but they were not, they then used HIPS while ethereal to avoid any damage I could do.
I had someone see it happen as well. It was intentional, and definitely some sort of exploit. I've just never seen it before. They specifically used some kind of acid flask grenadelike. Even when the PVP was happening and they threw it I IC went "What is that supposed to do?" as throwing acid flasks at ethereal mages seemed weird. Until I saw the damage number pop up as 0 (I had energy immunity.) and realized somehow I was out of ethereal.
I am uncertain whether it was the Grenadelike itself, or something else they did as they had cast a few different spells before hand. They also originally began attacking me before setting hostile (I am not sure if this makes a difference or not.). Just laying out all the facts to try to figure out what it was.

Yes, that definitely does matter. Whenever PVP is initiated, both parties need to be in hostile mode. Right clicking and attacking before going hostile is an exploit because certain spells and abilities can't be used on a "non-hostile" target. You should definitely get in touch with staff.Rask wrote:I am uncertain whether it was the Grenadelike itself, or something else they did as they had cast a few different spells before hand. Re: Thrown weapons pull their target out of Ethereal
This is a known exploit that i reported to the DM's a LONGGGGGGG time ago.
Damaging grenadables if thrown before hosteling then hosteling the target while the gernade is traveling sometimes has the effect of pulling you out of Invisibility and all forms of Etheralness.
It has happened in multiple accusations in the past in my PVP adventure's although half of those 80% of the time i never noticed because they were group vs group fights.

This makes sense now. This was probably exactly what they did.kkrazlite wrote:This is a known exploit that i reported to the DM's a LONGGGGGGG time ago.

It was quite shocking to lose the PVP bout due to this, also it makes a lot of sense now why they began their attack -before- setting me hostile. I was trying to RP my way out of the confrontation as I don't love PVP, but they started to go OOC and began attacking before setting hostile. I actually had to set -them- hostile because they had already begun attacking without ever doing it.
I had assumed originally they forgot to set me hostile, but now with this information it seems that it was intentional to get around my ethereal.
I actually have reported the incident to DM Boo but I have no idea how often he goes through those messages, and I won't create a stink on the forums by naming anyone (it's also against the rules.) but I made a report about this to the DM's before making this thread. I made this thread to try to figure out how they did this to me as i'd never encountered it before.

Re: Thrown weapons pull their target out of Ethereal
Sad to hear that happen. . .Ive been PVPing for a long time on this server. I am a huge lover of PVP in this game, even have it written in my examine that i allow for automatic consent to pvp actions. Although i do believe in heavy ruling and merit behind it, especially in a RP setting.
If its an exploit from PVP. I know about it. And that most definitely is one of them.
I would just tag what i said to the DM's or place it in your report if you are going to report them for misconduct in the PVP rules. You can even just tag what i said on this thread in your report.

I actually wrote a follow up message to Boo with a link to this thread because of the info you've given. I've not heard anything back, but it's worth them knowing about this again as it seems to be a thing some people do on this server to win at PVP.kkrazlite wrote:Sad to hear that happen. . .Ive been PVPing for a long time on this server. I don't mind PVP if there is RP behind it, but in this particular case there was none at all really, and then to use an exploit just left a sour taste. I don't mind losing, it's losing to cheating that bothers me.

Re: Thrown weapons pull their target out of Ethereal
Boo got back to me, saying that this was very clearly the use of an exploit ( And broken PVP rules.) and that they will be looking into the exploit ect. So at least now they very much know about this.
