Summary: Friney is a shapely hin of average height. She has deep blue eyes, ginger hair and a big forehead. She usually wears big boots, gray pants and a simple blue shirt. She also wears a small backpack, and some defensive leather patches (two small on her elbows and one big on her right arm).
Personality:
Friney is kind, honest and emotional person. She always says what she thinks, and if she is glad to see you — you will know it for sure (and other people around will hear it too). She is always happy to help others. During conversations Friney looks shy and indecisive, but when it comes to action, she will never give up and will always protect those who need it.
Friney is very curious persons. She always eager to know anything new, and sometimes she sounds tactless (for example, when asking a worshipper of Helm if he is worshipping his headgear or headgears in general), but she means no offense — it is just her infantile curiosity. Some Friney's questions and phrases can make you think that she is just another funny ordinary girl, but that's not true, she is just sincere as a kid. In fact, Friney is very smart and learns quickly.
Unlike most halflings, Friney speaks fluent common without any accent. Well, not only common. She knows eight languages, and now she is studying ninth. She loves learning and speaking new languages, but sometimes it causes some misunderstandings (for example, when she demonstrated her undercommon to a moon elf companion).
If she sees you casting spells, she would probably become very excited and ask something like "Are you a wizzard?". Friney adores all kinds of spellcasters (even warlocks and necromancers). She also loves animals, and if you meet her with your animals companions, she will ask you permission to stroke it.
Friney is also a sensible person. Although she is positive most of the time, there are two ways to make her upset, offended and even angry — igrnoring her and acting unfair. If she sees that her companions are doing something she doesn't consider right, she will try to reason them, and if she fails she will probably leave the party and take a huge offence.
Background:
Early years
Friney was born at Gullykin. She is the youngest child in her family. Her father, Thomas Whisperhill, was running a local bookstore. This shop was unpopular in Gullukyn, but it was the favorite place for young Friney. While her other siblings were fooling around or working in the fields or militia, she spend most of her time helping her father in the shop. Of course, the most interesting part in this job for Friney was reading.
Friney read lots of different books. Her favorite ones were magic foliants and language tutorials. She always dreamed to become a wizzard, but nobody supported her affort, plus she had no talent in spellcasting, which always made her sad. Despite this, she has shown incredible abilities in learning languages. When she was nine, she learned her first foreign language — gnomish. Common, dwarven, elven — she was studying quickly. Her family didn't support her, though, but it didn't stop her. At fifteen, she found some forbidden thayan manuscripts in dad's basement, and using them she learned thayan and undercommon. Secretly, of course. She also read lots of literature about alchemy, arts, warcraft, mechanics and so on, gaining more and more useful skills.
When she turned eighteen, she had to work, and unfortunately her father's store was already closed due to its unprofitability, so she didn't have much choice — fields or militia. She has chosen to become a fighter. She joined the militia, but it was worse than she expected. Despite her incredible erudition, she was very naive and sensitive, and other militias mocked her all the time. She couldn't do anything with it, not only because of her kindness. She was also the weakest member of the militia.
It couldn't last for long. One her nineteenth birthday, Friney fled to Baldur's Gate.
At Baldur's Gate
She was impressed by the huge world she discovered, but she didn't have much money to live there. She tried to employ as a bodyguard, but nobody took her seriously. Friney had to fight a lot, she risked her life many times, but it was priceless experience.
She understood quickly, that she can't act like a common fighter. She was too weak to slash and smash her foes, so she started developing her own fighting style. She couldn't rely on brute strength, so she started using her swiftness and wit. It was extremely hard at first, but then it paid off.
Instead of overwhelming her foes with raw power, she learned to predict their movements, surpise them with cunning tricks and turn their mistakes against them. Instead of withstanding enemies' attacks, she decided to avoid them at all. She didn't develop her muscular power, but rather spent her time learning acrobatic feints and making up tricky tactics.
Finally she came to a point, when her armour turned into a burden, and her weapon was too heavy to perform her best moves. From that moment, Friney doesn't wear any armour. All equipment she has is her small dagger and a leather patch on her right arm.
In Baldur's Gate Friney found many new friends and finally felt herself free. She still dreams to become a wizzard. Maybe, some day...

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
— Not long ago she helped Flaming Fists to destroy a gang led by a powerful necromancer. The party found a sinister stone on necromancer's body, and nobody knew what was the purpose of the stone and what powers lie within it. Friney tried to convince her companions to bring it to Candlekeep, but they didn't listen and brought it to Flaming Fists castle instead. Friney is still offended and thinks they are wrong.
— Friney is tolerant and a bit naive, that's why she can freely speak and work with Thayans, orcs and even Underdark dwellers.
