Anti-Paladin?

Unread post by HauteCarl »

What class RP wise is close to this here? I have a character idea which uses bastard swords and follows and evil deity / gets spells from said deity but paladin requires LG which nixes my idea.

Kelemvor is not a deity yet. We are pre-time of troubles. Myrkul could be a good choice, along with Bane and Bhaal. You also have Stormlords of Talos, or perhaps some Rogue/Cleric/Hierophant/Darkfire Disciple (Former Blackflame Zealot) follower of Mask.

But a long time ago, I had a "Fighter 12/Blackguard 4/Ghostfaced Killer 10/Divine Seeker 4". The blackguard spellcasting wasn't that great back then, and it is worse today, but that class combination was just lovely. Fighter for AB and extra damage, Blackguard for EDM, Divine Shield, and Charisma modifier to saves, Divine Seeker for Roguish abilities, and Ghostfaced Killer for increased sneak attack dice and the ability to 'Pseudo-Hips in fullplate.' A Doombringer of Myrkul - and just by thinking about it I want to reroll it.

Anyhow, if you want to have an anti-paladin, Dreadmaster of Bane is a PRC to consider.

So... Does anything tickle your interest?

Actually yes that sounds pretty damn good but not interested in following Bane here. Was not really planning to works rogue abilities into it but mechanically it's always a good thing to have. What do you mean by Psuedo-HIPS? I have a rogue and well, I don't want another. Really looking to have a character that uses a bastard sword and has divine spells and is evil.

You press a button, and you get instant invisibility/ethrealness for a short period of time and with a limited number of uses. But yeah, it will basically work like HiPS, with the exception that you can be spotted through magical means and that you can actually move at full speed. Thus you can use the short duration to reposition yourself, or just flee in relative safety.

As for your desire to wield a Bastardsword... It will cost you a feat. There is no way around that fact... And if you want proper divine spellcasting, Cleric, Favored Soul, Spirit Shaman, and Druid are pretty much your only choices. You could combine these base classes with Hospitaler because its first bonus feat could be used to open up Exotic Weapon Proficiency. (And if the last 7 levels of the PRC are saved for epic, those bonus feats could be used to pick Great Ability feats.)

Full blackguard. Gets you some divine spells.

Can easily do a fighter12/blackguard10/divine champion8, and you'll get 18 levels of smite good progression as well as lay on hands.

Fighter 12 gets you Epic Weapon Specialization and Melee Weapon Mastery for constant +2 AB and +4 Damage. But Fighter 10/Blackguard 10/Divine Champion ten does give you that temporary +2 AB and Damage alongside with +1 to all saves. Kind of depends what you actually want...

But as for Blackguard spell book, do they actually get any of the spells listed in here: https://wiki.bgtscc.net/index.php?title ... ard_Spells?

Because if not, your spell selection will be largely useless, dispel bait even if you take the Practised Spell Caster (Blackguard) feat. Well, if area has no dispells, you can make use of the Eagle's and Bull's, but not really beyond it.

I would guess that smite good is probably really limited in what it works on here since most of the mobs are evil. Am I wrong?

Fairly certain those spells were reliant on Rasael's spell replacement system and thus are not implemented. Currently Blackguard spells are mostly useless (aside from Bull's/Eagles).

Not caring about full CL progression, The bastard sword is their because the theme of the character would require it to have decent AB, near 40 I would think. The spell casting idea is only really to back up the theme that this character worships and evil deity and so its get spells from said deity, doesn't necessarily mean that the spells are epic I think. Probably could get by with that hammer of the gods spell if character were put in a "show me your god's power" scenario.

Well, you could just go for some kind of DC Cleric build with Hierophant, wisdom build. I think you can easily spare the feat to get Exotic Weapon Proficiency for your Bastard Sword, you can throw your Hammer of God, and 300 damage Harm Spells with high DC.

If you start with 16 in Strength, you just cast Divine Power and you have 30 BAB and 22 in Strength. Add Greater Magic Weapon, and Divine Favor, and you got that 44 AB. (Both spells can be quickened.)

Thus... I am really leaning towards suggesting a cleric. Just pick a deity and people can start spamming you with builds.

Well after looking at the custom changes to domains here, war, travel and celerity I think I am going to go a different route than cleric. Those changes are not really conducive to how I envision the character.

How about a Chaotic Evil Warlock? I think Hideous Blow automatically reapplies so you can get it once per round in melee. Not to mention that you can build a strength based Warlock and get that weapon Exotic Proficiency without it really costing you a thing.

Now, since Warlocks have their Haste invocation, even a single class will be able to get 6 attacks per round. Thus you would get 4 attacks per round with Northlander Hewing.

So... Potential Northlander Hewing damage:

10 (Bastard Sword Maximised)
+ 15 (Strength modifier * 1.5)
+ 4 (Enchantment Bonus)
+ 10 (Northlander Hewing extra damage based on Strength Modifier)
= 39 (Damage per hit)

And the damage per could be something like this: (39*4) + (14d6*1.5) = 219~.

You can claim to worship some evil deity, or entity.

Not to mention that you can multiclass and get some PRCs to your Warlock.

Not a bad idea. Warlock can fit the RP. I came up with a barb / fighter / bard combo. Take a look and critique if you feel like it. I think dispels would be a problem.

Still spell = Northlander Hewing in this build. The barbarian levels are basically just for fast movement.

Yeah, you can be dispelled. Thus you kind of need to go for the +4 equipment as you cannot entirely rely on Mirrors and Displacement not to get hit. But Curse Song is a strong debuff that you can throw around.

But what is absolute cancer, is that 40% multiclassing experience penalty.

Thus... If you want the Fighter weapon feats, I think Fighter 14/Warlock 16 would be a better build to go for. You cannot get Eldritch Master with such a build on this server, but even if you do get dispelled, you can just re-cast your buffs. Not to mention that you can pick a race with Fighter as favored class, and avoid that dreadful multiclassing experience penalty.

Least Invocations: Hidedeous Blow, Just pick one, Just pick one.

Lesser Invocations: Flee the Scene, Just pick one, Just pick one.

Greater Invocations: Vitriolic Blast, Just pick one, Just pick one.

Dark Invocations: Just pick one...

And if you actually go for the Fey Heritage feats, you get 9/Cold Iron Damage Reduction. It is good and makes you tankier.

Oh, and the best thing about Warlocks is that you do not need to invest in their primary casting stat if you do not want to.

Would I need to pick up Practiced Spellcaster with such a build?
