Shadowplane version of the City "Baldurs Gate"

Hi there,

Something that would be an interesting spin is a Shadow plane version of The City of Baldurs Gate. Taking one of the most known areas into a PvE area with a twist (perhaps with some quests).

Have this been considered before? And of such is it an idea that could be of note?

By means of convertion using the black and white filter, changing the environment ambience, removing npcs and replacing with spawns of the shadow plane...

Just a thought... :p

I've been there a couple of times. It has been used to great effect in DM events. I think making it a 'standard' area would cheapen it by having it just be 'a place to level'

We have this as a DM map already (just a gray version of BG, it's literally called Shadowplane), though it's currently removed from the module to save space.

Nice... so when the space issue is solved it could be put in permanently.

Yeah quite a few DM maps were "lost" to conserve memory, but they do still exist physically, they're just not in the current 'rotation.' They could be rotated back in, or left in permanently if we ever split the DM maps off onto a different server.

I do think that while they do take up server space, having relatively "empty" areas (maybe with a couple stray NPCs) are great for RP. They give us places to RP, they enable DMs to shift people around organically rather than summoning those giant (and very OOC) "portals", and they help enable us advance plot-lines VIA in-game RP rather than forum RP.

Actually, this area exists... or used to exists, and I went there once. I found the map to be beautiful.

Now, back when I went there, there was some sort of convoluted plot involved, stolen artifact, and even though the party was level 10 on average, there was a CR20+ shadow wyrm lurking there.

But I think the map is actually quite great - narrow streets make it more difficult and interesting to navigate when there are monsters, and at the same time they make the map more interesting than most of the "squarish" dungeons.

I think it would make a lot of sense to make it a real place and not a DM map.
