language overhaul

Unread post by NeOmega »

the languages are awkward. some of them are good, like elven, and drow, and some of them are terrible. especially like han shou and kozukoran.

id be willing to revamp some of these, since i can see it is essentially a series of letters and letter groups being replaced by others. for example, i know kozukoran and shou could be changed to come out more japanese and chinese sounding, calimshan more arabic, etc,

then items coukd be named, given more lore sounding names, etc.

just wondering how big a deal it would be to change some of these.

Yes absolutely please yes.

Alzhedo is so ugly in game and it looks nothing like any of the list of words that have been established as part of the language.

so my strategy would be to take the known words from languages, and start there with assigning them to letters or letter groups, and then letting the cards fall where they may on the rest. i havent looked at the scripts yet, but i am pretty sure letter groups or words can be substituted, with words over-riding letter groups. that must be how drow and elven have commonly known words turn out right.

Ok, first you need to unpack bg_soz_tools.hak, a file in your hak folder. You can do it easily with this https://neverwintervault.org/project/nw ... packer-v20

Then find the 2da you want to change, for you it will be csl_lang_alzhedo.2da . Change as you see fit and send it to me (it's simply a text file).

Awesome, didn't realize how easy it was to do. Unless NeOmega specifically wants to do them I can try and take care of Alzhedo (since it is the one I personally care most about).

ill start with the kara turan languages. those are pretty easy to know what the lore is, then i may move on to abbysal and celestial, terran etc, after some research.

is there a test program?

Just download that program that Valefort linked.
Extract it to your desktop or something.
Find the bg_soz_tools.hak in your hak folder and run it. When it asks you what program to use select the program you just downloaded.
Find the specific language file through that program (just keep scrolling down) and then right click it and press "extract selected".
Save that file somewhere easy, maybe make a languages folder in your documents or desktop.
Open up the .2da file with notepad (or notepad++ if you prefer that).
You can now edit that file freely and then send it to Valefort when done.

677 ptorection (I think this one is obvious)

Anyway.. gonna get to work on making Alzhedo not garbage!
