Background: At an early age, noble children are carefully examined for any signs of arcane talent. Any who are shown to have even small aptitude are immediately inducted into wizardry school, followed by a long and arduous apprenticeship to a Red Wizard. Those who survive their apprenticeship and are ambitious, resourceful, and talented are invited to join the Red Wizards. Gombdalla of Pyarados, the powerful Red Wizard of the School of Enchantments and Charms, and a past contender for the Zulkir of Enchantment before she let Lauzoril win the contest for the position for reasons unclear, had seen potential in the young Mulan noble, Zattiera El Cept, happening upon him at a young age. She thought that Zattiera seemed to have great potential in the school of enchanting and the young magus had shown to be more then capable in the magical art.

She then took him to train in one of her magical research institutes in Pyarados under one of her attendants. There, he studied the effects of enchantment magics upon the exotic beasts of Gombdalla's collection. Upon nearing the end of his training in Pyarados, he was then sent by Gombdalla's attendant supervising Zattiera to western Faerun to report and spy on the status of the Thayan Enclave of Baldur's Gate and report back after a time. He was warned that he would likely be viewed in a suspicious, unwelcome, and even potentially hostile fashion by those of the Guild of Foreign Trade working under the Master of the Guild and the Zulkir of Transmutation running the relatively new western Enclaves. This trade happy faction of the Red Wizards was after all in political opposition to the School of Enchantment and its current imperialist minded Zulkir Lauzoril. The young Mulan was additionally instructed by Gombdalla's attendant to learn all that he could about the cultures and areas of western Faerun as well as its leaders and factions. It seemed perhaps that Gombdalla was grooming Zattiera to one day become her attendant expert on western Faerun as a region, perhaps even to ultimately rise with her when she would again make a play to become The Zulkir of Enchantment. Possibly, using his learned information to embarrass the Imperialist faction of Zulkirs of which Zulkir Lauzoril is a part in her play for ruler-ship of the School of Enchantment.

After completing his long journey westward from Thay and in entering Baldurs Gate, the road weary young magus was assaulted by bandits who took most of his possessions. Soon after recovering, El Cept made his way to the Thayan Enclave of the city to present his instructions to the Baldurian Thayan Enclave on his cover duties from Thay. Having his possessions stolen only the night before, he did have the proper writ document to produce to the Enclave whom assumed him an imposter and asked him to leave and it is not clear his instructions in hand would have made any difference as was warned by Gombdalla previously. He bowed politely and left to take note of the rude behavior of the Enclave. If the Enclave will not permit him to do business with them again, he will just pursue the other possible aspects of his mission.

He now stays at a local inn writing his report hoping to improve relations with the Enclave, longing to be away from the non-Thayan local barbarian filth and to instead be back in Thay -- all in an effort to better complete his mission. He travels with companions hired as muscle to him and in order to better assist in his reporting back to Gombdalla in Thay. Zattiera is planning a trip to Candlekeep to seek out the second part of his missions. A rumored long forgotten book and to better study in its library about the culture of western Faerun. Zattiera is a cold calculating individual, who seeks power through manipulation and enchantment. He is dangerous in intent to both friend and foe, and more then willing to kill to achieve his goals, or deviously attempt to murder anyone in his way whether they be the peasant, city official, fellow wizard, or noble. So far his goals are far off from achievement and he has been forced to seek employment through the locals hunting down the very bandits that robbed him and to otherwise hone his skills, build political capital among the local population, and bide his time in service to Gombdalla...
