Mentor and Student within Baldur’s Gate

Occasionally a human wizard in green robes and an young elf woman wearing leathers is seen leaving The Church of Mystra during the day if the wheather seems pleasant and dry. They walk around the city stopping at more calm locations, escaping the clamor of the streets, mostly around the palace district gardens or east gate district. The human wizard seems to be the one talking, carrying various books and scrolls with him, while the elf seems more focused on making notes and listening. If one was to follow them most certainly it would be possible to catch the topic of the day if one wished.

This time they make their way to the garden of White Mask Teather, setting their materials on the bench. The elf remains seated on the bench while the human stands up, clearing his throat.


"You are ready to learn the second circle of spells of the Art, Lil'. Your study of the Weave and its bending has been most fluent and timely. This circle provides you with many spells, but particular are those of school of Transmutation, which I'd like to talk about today."

The wizards then stops noticing a cat in the garden, preying on something. Suddenly it gives chase to something that vanishes to a nearby bush. He then turns to the elf once more to continue with thoughtful hum before talking.


"The second circle provides some of the most well known spells of the magic school of Transmutation. Cat's Grace, Bull's Strenght, Eagle's Splendor to name a few. These spells are named after the attributes associated with the said animals. These spells alter the spellcasters or spell target ability through magical transformation, enchancing those abilities. This is what transmutation is all about. A bending of physical material or shaping of existing energy. Shaping properties of things, beings or condition according to the will of the caster and script of the spells. Transmutation is a centered on the philosophy that everything in the world is in a state of constant change. Some things change more rapid, like the weather, some through thousands of years, like the landscape. None the less everything change, so why not shape it with the Weave and change of what is accroding to your needs? It is going to happen anyway, given enough time. Those that criticise the school and it's accomplishments say that no one should intervene the natural change of things. Lets of all mortal spellcasters. These arguments quickly halted by those that specialize in the school, like one of our Arcanist of the church, Nedrin.

The school have fantastic spells in higher circles that lets you transform to a shape of another being, like through Shapechange. Change your own or others abilities or properties of objects and items. Keen Edge lets you sharpen the edge of bladed weapons to deadly effect, in example. Dissolve your enemy to dust casting Disintegrate, although this is the schools folly. It doesn't have many offensive spells for combat available, at least not easily known of obtained."


The wizard then reaches to a bundle of scrolls with him, offering some of them to the elf.

"These are some of the spells that you should be able to cast by now. The gestures and vocal components are something that you should be able to handle with some practise. These scrolls are second circle spells. I'd like you to copy them into your spellbook, so we can begin and see how you fair. You can begin once you have copied them. Remember to cast them on yourself. These should be harmless. Ask if you have something on your mind."

The man then takes a seat again, making some brief notes to his own notebook and letting her decipher the spells in peace reviewing the process.

The young elf is often ready with questions regarding the intricacies of formulae and the exactness of certain somatic components which at time seem to give her difficulty. Largely she is spending her time jotting down notes in her notebook as her teacher speaks, a quick script that almost seems to be a manner of shorthand, considering the speed at which she seems to be taking her notes.

When she receives the scrolls she begins work voraciously studying them, eyes hungrily taking in every rune inscribed upon the magically treated parchment, and when she has the room to do so copying the spells into her book, laying them side by side upon the bench whenever the human takes a moment for his own notes.

"Transmutation seems like it could have dire consequences if done incorrectly," the elf says, taking a moment to ponder something then shuddering and trying to shake an image out of her mind. "I can only imagine what horrors those without a care for the suffering of others could inflict with it."

Her expression falls slightly, her gaze distant for a moment before shaking herself and returning to look at her teacher. "I apologize. I didn't mean to become so grim."

The wizard would ponder the question for a moment, humming in thought.

”Such is the case of any magic, not just transmutation. It is wonderous tool and a gift. How one that recieves the gift decide to use it or not is beyond the control of the giver. A fireball is still a fireball, no matter if it is hurled at a troll or farmer. But some spells effect are just evil by their script and effect...”

Green robed man muses on his last sentence, grabbing his notebook making a short addition in it.

”A topic we should discuss in lenght at another time. For now focus on the verbal and, espesicially, somatic aspects of these spells I gave you. We indeed do not want these to backfire, as many of these spells concern... Physical attributes and form.”

He would then put away his notebook and focus on his apprentice. Some time later he would look around them. Seeing the daylight slowly dying he would gesture to the young elf.

"Come then. Let us continue somewhere with appropriate light."

They then gather what materials they brought and head back towards the East Gate District.
