First Name: Oswaldo
Nick Name: Oz
Last Name: Not provided, has used Fetch
Race: Rock Gnome
Age: 44
Height About average, 3' 5"
Weight: Slighty under weight (currently), 40lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Bald (Red)
Facial Hair Style: As a point of pride he wears a very well groomed, long beard. This is somewhat unusual for a rock gnome, and when pressed he may admit it was born in protest of his father (who always admonished him for his lackadaisical care of his beard), but is now here to stay.
Personality Profile: Locquacious, verbose, and garrulous describe him best, though he can clam up and become shy at times. As much as he wants to be loved and admired for his artistic pursuits, he still hears his father's voice ridiculing his passions and can be quite anxious as a result. He can be indecisive and has very little impulse control, at times using a well-worn coin to help him make decisions (using the 1d2 in game).
General Health: Healthy. Wiry, nimble, and agile.
Deity: Garl Glittergold by tradition, though he offers prayers to all gods dependent on circumstance.
Profession: Minstrel (currently)
Habits/Hobbies: Playing, composing, and enjoying music. Embarking on what he calls "Grand Adventure". Hearing and telling stories.
Languages: Gnomish, Halfling, Dwarven, Common
Weapon of Choice: Short Bow.
Background:
Born in the small gnomish community of Greenglen, just a few day's ride from Waterdeep, Oswaldo was the son of an all-too-serious constable and a loveably-loyal midwife. His earliest years were spent learning his letters and herbal lore from his mother, and the way with a bow from his father. These both bored him, truth be told, and he spent most of his free time dodging responsibilities while fishing, hunting, reading stories of heroes and villains, and pestering any outsider that happened upon their village.. all of this much to the chagrin of a father who demanded he be the next constable.
Travel was out of the question. Home was home, his father said. They had family in Waterdeep, his father's own brother! His father, however said that Uncle Rasvyn was no longer 'one of them' and forbade his family any contact. Rasvyn tried many times to send letters and packages. All were burned, unopened. He never came to Greenglen himself, and his father never explained his ill-will.
Looking back, it was a pivotal moment when Oswaldo met a traveling gnomish minstrel by the name of Gimbly the Great. He was now nearing fifteen winters, and had nearly given up on ever leaving his village to experience the stories he'd read in books. To Oswaldo, Gimbly was everything he'd hoped to be. He was free. He was traveled. With his tales of cities far and near, monsters only imagined, and songs of gods unknown, he awoke a drive in Oswaldo to see the world for himself. He was both his idol and his metaphorical emancipator. When Gimbly left the village he left an old, battered lute in Oswald's possession. He decided shortly thereafter that one day he himself would one day be one of "the Greats", and took to practicing as often as he could.
With his newfound goals now held tight, the tension between Oswaldo and his father grew more and more acute. Every interaction became an argument. He now found any reason to hide in a tree with a book, or along the stream with his lute. His mother was secretly encouraging of his newfound musical talents, but his father however would mock him as "Oswaldo the Adequate", saying he would never be "Great" at anything.
It was a few years later that his father caught him napping along the stream, his lute in hand. He had been told to patrol the village perimeter. Awoken with a great shout and the sound of splintering wood and breaking strings, his hands flew unrestrained as he struck his father a hard blow to the back of his head. Then he ran. He ran and never looked back.
His father lived. He didn't know it at the time, however, and didn't for many years later in fact. They never spoke again. Eventually, Oswaldo found himself in Waterdeep. Hungry. Penniless. He found Rasvyn, and in so doing he found out why exactly his father had warned him over the years, why they'd never come to visit him. It is here that his story turns a bit gray, and varies with the telling. What did he do next? How long was he there? Who was Rasvyn, anyway? The answer to those questions seem to change with each telling.
Wait, is any of this true? I thought he said he was born in Waterdeep??
