The case of the Meta Button. (que danger zone)

Unread post by professiondude »

hello gentlemen and ladies of the DM team.
I hast un question that ist very importante to my sanity.

I find myself confused and sleepwalking due to an issue.

The issue is the new meta button (Cough) Appraise button feature we've added to the server.
It goes against the lovely rulebook that is as old as the sands of time themselves.

so if we look at how the Appraise button bypasses this rule:

Characters outfitted in a way that completely hides their identifying features require the aggressor to apply normal PvP rules, regardless of which side the disguised character is from. The disguise must be complete and hoods by themselves do not count. Patterns of speech, accents, body language, and other distinctive qualities are discerned only through roleplay over time, and details such as "a funny-sounding name" or the size of the character alone do not count for the purposes of identification.

we can see here that with the creation of the meta button of convenience we bypass one of the holy rules we used to follow as if moses himself had it as a commandment in the old world.

So i must ask the DM team this:

IS the Appraise button going to destroy a rule we so followed as holy text given to us by the DM team or are we going toward a direction that literally makes Meta easier. Ruining Immersion and completely ruining the fully clothed /masked persons efforts at hiding their face (which is covered).

Will we be throwing out the ONE old rule that supports RP in figuring out who is behind the mask?
thus ruining a OOC fueled investigation of your target you KNOW is in front of you but the rules protect you from meta'ing their face and body?

Is this going from an RP server to a RP server with easy bypasses and loopholes that protect those who wish to bypass high quality RP with the push of a button?

I think the appraise skill is perfect. You need serious skill is a skill that has little mechanical value outside of some shops to be able to tell a race. This is easily foiled by a mask or a disguise skill and the disguise tool. If it were JUST RP the player hiding is always going to RP that you cant tell their race. Now we can use the "play whats on your sheet" Sorry, the fact that you "say" you are not a tiefling doesn't matter, I rolled 100 on my appraise and you don't even have a disguise on, the server told me you are a fiend, my character knows you are a fiend.
