Building Help needed!

Unread post by Myriel »

Hi everyone,

I've got a tough question for all of you builds experts. I'm planning to play a Rashemi Hatran-to-be, so I'd like to have a build with a bit of all the traits of Rashemi Witches.
Do you think it would be feasible to double class Sorcerer-Spirit Shaman and have Thaumaturge as prestige class? Would it be better to stick to the bi-class? Do you see any other prestige class as more fitting in the PC?
If I stick to the bi-class, should I go with 3 sorcerer levels + 3 levels of spirit shaman or mixing them?
Do you see an Aasimar good for this purpose or maybe a common human is better?

Hathran aren't Spirit Shaman, they are wizard's. There is no reason to add Spirit Shaman unless you have a specific back story about it that you feel makes it required. Otherwise it's unneeded and hurts your build. If you do want it, I would say keep it to 3 or 4 levels max and just take practiced caster wizard. Thaumaturge is good if you want to be a summoner/conjuration focused wizard, but the power of your summons is tied to your caster level, so again, you don't want to many non-wizard progression classes/prc's.

Thaumaturge is a good one. Not overly sure if Arch Mage makes sense for a witch. Certainly would not think Blood Mage fits and definitely not Shadow Adept. Master Alchemist perhaps would work, but you take that for RP, not for power. Just W25/T5 is perfectly fine, but could go W21/T5/AM4 if you wanted.

If you do go this route, don't go more than SS4 or you are not going to be a very good caster for either class.

very bad choice. Favored Class is Paladin so having Sorc and Wizard will have a 20% XP penalty unless you alternate, ending up something like W13/SS12/T5. With 2 feats would end up with W CL 22 and SS 16. Your summons will be weak and all your wards can be dispelled easily. XP penalty on ECL +1 is ouch. Rasheman has Genasi so you could go Tiefling or Fire Genasi if you are ok dropping Spirit Shaman, but if you want to stick with that I would recommend Human for less stressful leveling, especially in epics.

Here is a brief overview of The Rashemi people and the Wychlaran.

http://www.realmshelps.net/faerun/rashemen/people.shtml

My main character is a Wychlaran (Ethran) and my alt, who I mostly retired due to an event that left her blind, is a Hathran that has traveled back to Rashemen. She only visits every now and then. Both of them I have chosen to go with full Spirit Shaman or close to it.

** Yes they can be any spellcasting class see the brief description in the link ** :)

Salaria - Bounty Hunter half-sister of Darius Brothers
Angelina Northstar - Holy Warrior of Tyr / Knight of the Silver Rose
Matilda Stonehold - Honorable Sheild Dwarf
Loriah Swift - Morninglord of Lathander

I would avoid Sorcerer/Spirit Shamans, because stock NWN2 has a certain spell casting progression bug that goes against D&D mechanics. In my opinion, it should be a bannable offense here, it probably is.

But anyhow, generally speaking, having two caster classes does not exactly work on this server because we have a thing called Dispel Fix. Meaning that unlike in the default game, your actual caster level is properly used in dispel checks rather than the HD of your character. Hence, something like a Cleric 15/Wizard 15 is easily dispelled on this server, while on some other it would be largely undispellable once you reach high enough level.

Anyhow, I would just pick one or the other.

Edit: Made the bug slightly harder to understand based on Chad's request.

Well, as Lisa said, and the Unapproachable East Manual confirms (http://home.nitkin.net/dndbooks/UE_Unap ... leEast.pdf), Rashemi Witches can be all spellcaster classes :)
I do personally see them much closer to a Spirit Shaman than to a Wizard, that's why I was thinking of mixing up the sorcerer and the SS, but I got all of your interesting points and tips and I think I will go for a pure Spirit Shaman and that's all, it's easier to fit in the back story I got for her and more fun for RP.
I was only considering if it could be worth to stay on the Aasimar for the pure Spirit Shaman getting a +2 in charisma and wisdom much needed of the SS or simply go Human and easier levelling up.

As a pure or mostly pure Spirit Shaman, especially if going DC Caster Aasimar is the best choice. As to the rest, I suppose my knowledge of hathran/rashemi lore comes mostly from 1 and 2e along with the Baldur's Gate games. :)
