What exactly is the benefit of improved familiar beside for RP-reason ?
The wiki is saying that you can choose a new familiar from a nonstandard-list .. are these
familiars more powerful or do they get special feats ?

When you reach epic level and epic caster level your familar becomes able to cast a spell like ability that you can pick from a list of level 1-8 spells.

Nothing particular, the improved familiars are a tad less fragile but they remain bad at fighting. The only mechanical advantage lies in the spell like ability they can pick, level 1-8 instead of level 1-3 for the usual familiars.

They become very robust.

Suck at combat like Valefort said, but a lot of HP and decent AC and saves.

Is there a "master list" of what Familiars are available from the Improved Familiar Feat?
