Wood Elven Wizard Build?
I need a bit of help for a Wood elven Wizard build, I'm very new to the server and game and have absolutely no idea what I am doing, specially since this place has a lot of custom stuff.
I want her to be something of a crafter sort, and teacher (Used to teach languages on another server in NWN1) but still useful in combat, you know? I also know this place isn't as PVP heavy as where I came from, but I'd still not like her to die easy. <xD

Wood elf gets -2 int so your DCs won't be great. Maybe go W20/MA5/T5 (Master Alchemist and Thaumaturge). MA gives some crafting options on potions while Thaumaturge focuses on summoning.

Any ideas on feats, skill points and such? I'm a rper, not a builder, I really do need alot of help with this. <xDchad878262 wrote:Wood elf gets -2 int so your DCs won't be great. As far as skills you'll want to max diplomacy and will want high lore skills from an rp perspective. All wizards should max concentration and spellcraft. You'll need at least 10 in craft alchemy and spellcraft for master alchemist and 8 lore: the planes and 6 diplomacy for Thaumaturge. Feats you'll need skill focus: craft alchemy, brew potion, spell focus and greater spell focus: Conjuration. That leaves three more feats pre- epic. Extend spell is a strong option and I'd go for quicken as well. If you plan to go DC spells at all you should grab spell casting prodigy at 1, but that's sub optimal. Empower spell is a good pick to help your summons or you could grab a reserve feat since you said you're relatively new. Reserve fears are usually a weak option, but could be a help for a semi-newbie.

I could work with that, (Dragon Knight I was eyeing up to, so it maybe good for this) also quick question, I know I want RP wise a lotta her stuff to focus primarily on her divination school of magic, since thats what I created her based off of, any suggestions for that?chad878262 wrote:As far as skills you'll want to max diplomacy and will want high lore skills from an rp perspective. @Tsidkenu played a diviner for years and is the best person to help with that... Personally I think it's a pretty weak area to focus on, but I also don't like taking it as my opposition school since the spells are great for rp. Tsid can give toy some strategies for a diviner.

Re: Wood Elven Wizard Build?
Yes I do
As divination has many different 'angles' to it, its best to think and prepare beforehand what kind of diviner you want to be and then do some OOC research into it.
My former character was an astrologer first and foremost so I did a lot of reading on both real world and Faerunian astrology, zodiac, crafting portents and such like. I then bolstered that by taking what I had learnt and wrote several IC/IG books about the topic, culminating with the final (and retirement) development of a new Divination Spell, Aeili's Astrological Augment, which is available for use to wizards, sorcerers and clerics with the Magic Domain.
You might want to choose alternate means, be it crystallomancy, tarot, haruspex, belomancy or whatever you like. Belomancy (divination by positioning of fallen/shot arrows) seems a natural fit for a wood elf if you ask me

Re: Wood Elven Wizard Build?
Thank you for the heads up! And no worries, part the reason I want to make her a diviner is because of that, I have a lot of knowledge in astrology, astronomy, tarot cards, Crystal magics, (Even some plant magics like rose petals), Oneiromancy, etc. (Scrying from another NWN server has proven to fit in with her rather well) sadly my memory is really bad so i take a moment to look up things.Tsidkenu wrote:Yes I do![]()

There are some other reasons i picked her race and god how I did, but that might get a bit too ooc / spoilery?
So she's kinda classic very fortune-telling-magic-obsessed-fantasy-nerd.

Just as a side note....You should really click the links in Tsidkenu's signature. They are probably the number one most important resource for a neophyte wizard player on this server.

a good friend of mine plays a haruspex style diviner wiz and also a -2 int race to boot. i have not noticed a power issue and he is still a very very powerful wizard even with this self-nerf.
he got some really good advise from tsid when he rolled it up and OOC research has really helped to flesh out (pun.. yw) the character.

You want to max your diplomacy, and preferrably your Lore:Planes as well if you're being genuine about Thaumaturgist. BGTSCC has an advanced and exciting system of Truename conjuration, letting you bind specifically named creatures with abilities and powers far beyond their normal ken.
To excel in the use of that system, you need diplomacy for negotiations with the various creatures & Lore: Planes to discern their abilities and/or background.

By the sounds of it, I'd probably want to take "Able Learner" as soon as I can then, help get some skill points to help with that.Tsidkenu wrote:You want to max your diplomacy, and preferrably your Lore:Planes as well if you're being genuine about Thaumaturgist. I am shocked no one suggested to explore www.nwn2db.com
It's a great resource for planning character builds. You just need to see some of the nuances and be creative if using a build with classes it doesn't have.
-2 to a primary stat is not a big deal. You can do other things to compensate for it.
