Returning Player from Years Back Need a Beginning Build
Hi guys,
I am looking for a few different low item needed builds that is excellent for doing loot run since I will be building everything up from scratch again for BG. Any build is okay. I would like a few choices so I can pick the best one that I can RP with.
Thanks for your help!

could go a monk build. pretty good ones out there and they are not massively gear dependent. maybe druid. could go cleric build too or mage if you are familiar with playing a mage here.
game isnt too hard. you should be ok with just about anything sensible.

I'd suggest either a Buffing Cleric, Strength-high Bard or Wisdom-high Intuitive Strike Monk.
Oh...and the character should be a dwarf!

Hmm... Monk non-caster builds are relying heavy on items.... as do all non-caster builds.
Cleric/FVS are those who almost dont need any items as they can buff up heavy. A cleric with Plant or Spell or Spider Domain has even access to spells enhancing their Natural Armor and doesnt need a necklace slot for that.
There are also Monk/Cleric/SacredFist builds who dont rely on items too.
Druids is also a non-item relevant class.
Tough buffing up isnt that much fun.

Thanks for the feedback thus far.
For monks, I really enjoy the movement speed. To a lesser degree, the barbarian speed is also nice.
As to clerics/druids/mages, I feel that gear is less important since they have self buffs. The downside I see playing casting class is that I must spend time buffing before battle, which for loot running isn't ideal.
I am guess I am really looking for something in-between and some better idea on which build requires less hard-to-come by items to make it effective to say solo dracolich in a relatively short amount of time.
Thanks.

Barbarians with Iceland Berzerker feat get a huge bonus to NA, so you dont need a necklace for that. Some Barb 20 builds with wand use are probably quite good for loot runs.
I think BearWarriors also get some AC bonuses. so also less item dependent.
Same for Duelist who can get a constant +5 Deflection bonus.
Most +4 AC items can be bought nowadays, tough they are expensive...
Soloing the Dracolich.... i can do that with my dwarven Monk build, but i need a wand of least Spellmantle and sometimes a few heal potions. More challenging is making it to the dracolich as the vault 1s floor got buffed and the rest ((ancient mummy bosses^^)) is also challenging. My guess is many builds can do it but have other ways to do it you have to found out yourself.
Theres also the alltimer Monk20/Cleric3/SacredFist7. Good in all situations, just some situational buffing with Divine Power or other gimmicks. Pick STR domain and extend spell.

Warlock... nothing easier or more forgiving to new players.

Re: Returning Player from Years Back Need a Beginning Build
Basically, you could just go for something like a constitution based 'Fey-lock' 30 build...V'rass wrote:Warlock... nothing easier or more forgiving to new players.
You get as high constitution as possible, then you get the following feats:
1) Fey Heritage
3) Toughness
6) Steadfast Determination
9) Fey Skin
12) Fey Presence
15) Fey Power
18) Fey Legacy
21) Eldritch Master
23) Fast Healing I, Fast Healing II (Requires 22 constitution)
25) Fast Healing II (Requires 23 Constitution)
26) Epic Eldritch Blast I
27) Epic Eldritch Blast II
29) Epic Eldritch Blast III, Epic Eldritch Blast IV
You got a ton of HP, you can blast all day an night, you got innate DR, and constant Regeneration...
The other alternative, which I actually prefer myself... Is basically a Barbarian 20/Something else 10 build. There is an amulet that grants you Extra and Extend Rage feats, then you just need to grab Ice Troll Berserker, and make a choice between Northlander Hewing or Improved Combat Expertise. Whether you go for maximum strength or highish constitution does not really matter.
Something like Barbarian 21/Fighter 4/Dwarven Battlerager 5 or Barbarian 20/Divine Champion or Barbarian 20/Anointed Knight-Warrior of DArkness 10 or Barbarian 20/Fighter 10 will work more than fine. Usually you just take 17 levels of Barbarian before charatcer level 20, and then get your 20th level at character level 25 for Epic Rage. (REquires 21 strength)
Rage variant choice doesn't matter these days. Whirlwind Frenzy is better to start out from scratch since it adds more AC faster, and grants that extra attack. But the perks of standard rage really shine later on.

I never can decided on the type of energy resist. What are the two most useful types for PvE? If I play a warlock, I am looking at an half-orc warlock or maybe Human. Any other race that is good?

For a melee based Warlock, fire, simply to absorb the fire damage from mob Elemental Shield spells. But if you are dealing ranged damage... Something else will do.
Acid... Maybe Sonic?

Re: Returning Player from Years Back Need a Beginning Build
Fire & Acid seems solid to me.
What about an appraiser build that can do all the quests and secrets in the game like the dead Capitan ghost under the ruins..
Initial thought was a human bard 26/4 Guild Thief..but I have no idea what and abilities to go for so he has some sort of fighting ability...
Any suggestions or modifications?
The goal is to have the max discount the game always and with the utility to be able to do any quests while still have some decent fighting abilities.
Thanks.

Re: Returning Player from Years Back Need a Beginning Build
You could just make a human Bard 27/Rogue 3. Rogue and Bard open up pretty much all skills as class skills so you can literally do whatever you want.

Yes, but how to actually get damage done?
Also, I went guild thief in the build to get the 10% discount. Isn't that important for appraising?

Re: Returning Player from Years Back Need a Beginning Build
At lower levels you got curse song sonic damage. It also lowers enemy AC and therefore making them easier to hit. Later you will have Song of Requiem, which deals a lot more sonic damage. Then, you have your Inspire Courage, which eventually adds +6 Damage and AB per hit with the Inspirational Boost spell. You got perfect two-weapon fighting, for 10 attacks per round before haste. Then you got Expose Weakness bleeding damage and AC debuff.
Thus the answer is, you click on an enemy and watch the HP bar go down.
