Dragon Build Druid: Spell Focus:Conjur/CE/ICE?

Unread post by Brutalix »

I've noticed on NWN2DB that many of the druid shifter builds have "spell focus: Conjuration" and the CE/ICE combo. I think I understand the reason for conjuration. I assume it helps with summons/pets and possibly with your druid shifting into dragon form? The CE/ICE im finding a little harder to figure out. I get the improved AC, but druids in dragon form struggle with a already lowish AB? What am I missing?

Because you cast a Storm of Vengeance (9th level, Conjuration), let it stun everything and then play whack-a-mole. I think Stonehold is also conjuration (6th level) which is another druidic hold-em type spell.

ICE is for when you tank a boss with your 70+ dragon form AC while your animal companion goes to town on it.

Last I used stonehold (man I gotta get my druid up again) it affected party members to include companion. Might have changed in the last couple of years.

Use caution.

Up to you about ICE. You could use 2 feats for it or get augment summon or empower or something else more useful.

Don't get me wrong ice is nice, but you will be immune to crits, have extended regeneration, dr 20 at least, etc etc. If druids had a concealment spell they would be near good status in the mortality department.

The only issue with augment summon and epic conjuration is that you are only beefing up one summons. They will be stronger no doubt and bump your dps a little bit more.

Up to you on how you want your sappling to grow up.

So, would something like this work out if I wanted to focus on a stronger summon?

Not like you'll ever need 70 AC. Druid is super tanky already, with its 60+ AC, 30/adamantine DR (and 15/- when that wears off) and access to various healing spells.

If you move feats around and invest some crossclass Lore of The Planes you can go 26 druid and 4 thaumaturge which gives Augment Summoning for free at L3 and can get Dragon Shape at l29

This frees up that feat slot to take custom feat Beckon the Frozen which will further improve summons

On Wiki, Mass Drown L9 is conjuration so that can help on offense unless theres a mechanic IDK about that renders it weaker

Hierophant and Cleric with animal domain can give companion progression I believe however you will likely lose Dragon Shape feat

I personally haven't gotten to that point yet, but the 3 levels lost for dragon is exponential to the power lost.

All about what you are willing to lose, to what you will gain.
