SO.... in Sshamath there are 750 drow who follow Corellon

Unread post by Max Hatchet »

OK... im reading up on the Lore a bit on the server and im amused to see that 2% of the population (i make that 750) worship a drow demi-deity form of Corellon - Vhaid Ih'ara - amongst several other Seldarine with sizable followings (Labelas Enoreth has over a 1000?)

This is quite fascinating and im wondering - do they know they follow Corellon or are they being hoodwinked in a way?

Is this a tradition that goes back many generations to before the sundering of the drow?

Presumably much of the non evil Drow (under 10% of population) worship these demi gods

Other popular deities among the citizenry (Drow) are in order of popularity:

(0. Lolth (18% of the population are regular or devoted worshipers) )
1. Vhaeraun (12%)
2. Mystra (11%)
3. Gaunadaur (9%)
4. Selvetarm (7%)
5. Azuth (6%)
6. Zinzerena (6%)
7. Erevan Ilesere / Ghollhyr (under demi-deity guise, 5%)
8. ‎Eilistraee (4%)
9. Hanali Celanil / Euotet (in demi-deity guise, 3%),
10. Savras (3%)
11. Labelas Enoreth / Solzhaun (under demi-deity guise, 3%)
12. Correllon Larethian / Vhaid Ih'ara (in demi-deity guise, 2%)
13. Fenmarel Mestarine / Do'gareth (under demi-deity guise, 2%)
14. Kiaransalee (1%)
15. Other, or regular or devoted atheist (8%)‎ ‎

Correllon Larethian = Vhaid Ih'ara (The proud protector)
Erevan Ilesere = Ghollhyr (Of the lucky tricks)
Fenmarel Mestarine = Do'gareth (the strong outcast)
Hanali Celanil = Euotet (As lovely as a Gem)
Labelas Enoreth = Solzhaun (the knowing eye)

It is a demi-deity guise. The word 'Guise' implies that it is a disguise. So it should be a safe assumption that these are Seldarine deities who are pretending to be another demi deity.

I believe that the reason for it is that there are a reasonable number of Drow who aren't tainted by demonic blood. These are viable Elven worshippers for the Seldarine. And it stands to reason they might see it as their mission to 'care' for that section of Drow population.

It should also be a safe assumption that these deities are probably more agressive / brutal / dark fey than their normal Seldarine incarnations. Emphasis on the darker aspect of their nature. I'm not aware of any specifics though.

In a more speculative sense you might conceive that its a mission of (potential) redemption. But I wouldn't go that far.

Solzhaun sounds like a beholder cult.

What is the source of these Drow guises of the Seldarine, specifically the names? Is this some custom lore? I've never seen those names before, and I've pretty much read most FR sourcebooks. Not being critical at all if that is the case, just curious.

Dark maybe but not evil? From the names they dont look like they would be worshiped by any evil drow - 'proud protector' 'As lovely as a Gem'. So i might also guess they are worshiped in secret?

Does a search for 'Seldarine' turn up anything?

The Drizzt 2nd edition is one book i did not have... i just got hold of it so have some fine reading for the evening!

i was searching for the names given. But yes there is this paragraph when i search for 'Seldarine' that describes the demi gods!

"Temples
Whereas the clergy rules most drow enclaves, Sshamath reduces priests to marginal roles. In many ways, priests emulate the practices and concerns of the ruling wizard caste. In addition to the faiths discussed below, small sects of Azuth, Mystra, Savras, Velsharoon, and even various members of the Seldarine are known to exist. The latter appear in the guise of previously unknown drow demipowers, without the benefit of true priests."
