Spell immunity: Cloudkill property does not work

I have a ring of spell immunity to cloud kill and it does not stop the fortitude damage caused by the spell.

Varus Montell- Probably blowing himself up with a new bomb

Spell imunity doesn't do anything unless the spell was cast directly on a character.
