Background:
Before its fall, House Evrine was thought of as a fairly minor player on the political scene of Menzoberranzan. Minor, but - as Silia would gladly point out - not non-existent. The relatively young matron had spent the past few decades balancing the House's affairs on the edge of a razor-sharp knife, holding it together and later even increasing its power after the untimely demise of her mother.
Suddenly, disaster struck. One of the House's closest allies betrayed them, pulling a thread that unraveled the delicate web of deals and precautions that had provided House Evrine with a modicum of protection against its competitors for centuries. Within hours, virtually all of Silia's underlings had been killed, captured, or convinced to defect, and Silia herself was forced to flee Menzoberranzan in the company of her loyal retainer and bodyguard, He'chice'ra. Eventually, they made their way to Sshamath with virtually nothing to call their own, seeking sanctuary in the unconventional city-state and hoping to further ensure their safety by joining the local branch of Bregan D'aerthe. Bitter at Lolth's perceived betrayal - and the very real betrayal of her allies - Silia, now a follower of Kiaransalee, intended to bide her time until she could exact horrible vengeance upon her betrayers. House Evrine was gone, but it would strike back from beyond the grave.
Plans tend to change quickly in the Underdark, however: As the duo waited for an audience with Bregan D'aerthe, Silia encountered the warlock Lomir. Cowed by her insignia - still openly proclaiming her identity as the matron of House Evrine - Lomir offered his services to the ex-matron, prompting her to reconsider her plans. Realizing that she may yet rebuild her powerbase, Silia now seeks to rebuild her House, then seek vengeance.
Goals: Avenge the fall of House Evrine, and try to restore it to its former glory - and beyond.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Although He'chice'ra knows of her matron's new allegiances, Lomir believes her to be a Lolthite. Consequently, Silia must maintain the illusion of being a follower of Lolth, lest she risk losing his loyalty - and possibly that of any other recruits she may draw to her banner.
- Silia's younger sister, Ilhara, survived the fall of House Evrine and took to the streets of Menzoberranzan. An agile, stealthy spellcaster, Ilhara was distinctly more unorthodox than her elder; she has never shown much interest in challenging Silia's authority, instead preferring to explore her arcane talents - seemingly for little more than her own amusement. The two have a somewhat strained, but - by drow standards - close connection, and it is likely that they would avenge each other should one of them fall. (Regardless, Ilhara doesn't share the ambition or vindictive nature of her elder sister, and would prefer to strike out on her own. In a way, the fall of House Evrine has been a liberating experience for her, freeing her from the pressure of House politics - both internal and external.)
- Should Silia ever be eliminated in such a manner that I deem her resurrection to be unlikely, I'll RCR into Ilhara, who is likely to be a Chaotic Neutral or Neutral Good Sorcerer/Rogue/Daggerspell Mage/Arcane Trickster follower of Eilistraee.
- I have no OOC idea who betrayed Silia. It was probably a House of minor-to-moderate relevance in Menzoberranzan politics, but... yeah. I got nothing.
- It is likely that Silia's enemies would very much like to finish her off. For this reason - and for the sake of preserving an illusion of strength - she does not discuss the fate of her House gladly, if at all. She is in Sshamath for her own reasons, and outsiders need not know what those reasons are.
