The Greater Loot
So, I have a toon now that can solo the Frost Giants Castle area (and probably many others...). I have not been in that Area for about 4 years. I was kinda surprised that I could solo it with a specific build. Well, maybe not that surprised.
Anyway, in my first foray into this Area in such a long, long time, I managed to acquire 2 epic pieces of Equipment. Epic in my terms, being they have +4 deflection and +4 Constitution, plus other minor bonuses.
My point in posting about it is this: is it really just this easy, that all one needs to do is make a "powerbuild," grind it up and consistently LOOT-GRINDZ these Epic Areas, and you'll enrich yourself—here being the Player and his/her multiple Toons—so much more than any sort of Role-play will ever enrich you?
Damn...I think I'm writing rhetorically (bad Steve, bad).

You got LUCKY.
Enjoy it.
You won't find such good loot at once for another 100 runs.

Temper yourself here. I never find loot that good there. So that was some luck.

Re: The Greater Loot
As was repeated time and time again CR does count in loot, altough it was certainly a lucky run the probabilities favor high CR areas.

Re: The Greater Loot
Thing is though, while loot is better than it was, whatwith the epic stores and similar sources, it is much harder to sell that nice loot you get. What was once worth 30K ish now sells for 10K if lucky.
Most of the time, you'll be selling all your +3 and even +4 gear to NPCs. At least, that is what I found.
However, it does feel true that areas above a certain CR are more likely to drop loot that sells for 1250/1350g rather than less, allowing more consistent profits than lower areas.

Re: The Greater Loot
Of course it feels good to be lucky. As well peppered by the fact that a once-in-4-years excursion results in some direct pay off. Though, it was only a +4 Deflection cloak and a +4 CON Heavy Shield.
Nonetheless, I can't help but feel it's quite easy to "game the system," being that a Player should roll up a Bardzerker, Favored Soul or Dragon Druid and use that toon for Loot Grinding, then take the results of a (semi-) regular grind schedule and funnel such gains into another Character that becomes your "Role-play" Character.
Granted you need to care about these things, like good Items and being POWAHFULL in purely mechanical form. But let's be real: it feels good to discover things, gain on a random chance, and to be able to puzzle out combinations using such finds.
As to High CR Areas, it makes sense to me that these "pay off" better than low CR, considering there is some risk and one must expend consumables to do it. A more "giving" Loot System does also have its benefits, that being that once totally rare and high value items are now hitting bottom market prices—look at Mithral Full Plate for example—and then those toons that are far from soloists, can be outfitted with quite minimal coin.
Personally, however, I would much more prefer gaining custom improvements to gear that are permanent to the Character/PC, then having to grind out hours trying to discover something or be able to make a trade for something wanted with equal value of something found. The custom gain coming directly from Role-play investment.

Re: The Greater Loot
Are you really moaning about this? I mean like really?
Ive looted this server for over ten years, you got exceptionally lucky. Many people have found more interesting stuff than I have in a quarter of the time I spend looting. Some from DM events some from sheer luck. But treasure hunting or looting in general is more satisfactory to me than a lot of the RP I see around, the current loot system is more enjoyable than its ever been and it is not throwing epic quality gear at you left and right.
I personally could'nt be more against custom improvements, because this caters to a handful of players and not the collective player base. And I have always been opposed to players getting epic rewards from DMs for coordinating their play times with each other and generally excluding any one not on that friend list.

So what? Is that your problem? People around here as so petty and more occupied what others do than minding their own bloody business. What if they actually like their character concept and what it represents? And it happens to be effective at certain things, well newsflash pall, that will always be the case. If we go back some rough ten years only two classes excelled at doing jack shit on the server. Now there are handful, so things are moving in the right direction.Nonetheless, I can't help but feel it's quite easy to "game the system," being that a Player should roll up a Bardzerker, Favored Soul or Dragon Druid and use that toon for Loot Grinding, then take the results of a (semi-) regular grind schedule and funnel such gains into another Character that becomes your "Role-play" Character.

Re: The Greater Loot
Going to lock before this spirals.
Nice finds, OP.
We are actively discussing how to adjust (and whether to adjust) the loot tables and drop rates staff side. If we adjust them, it'd probably be to drop better loot more often.
