Upcoming Winding Water Events 27th 28th July

Hello all,

The weekend of the 27th and the 28th July is going to see a large multi-stage event take place with regards to the Winding Water event arc. While the details of what is planned are not known to all PCs, I wanted to open this thread to give out of character notice a head of time so players can plan to be present at a relevant time.

Note this particular event is likely to be combat heavy, given its part of a war. It is for duchally aligned PCs primarily but is open to all those not outlawed by the Dukes

But Golem, what do you mean by multi-stage event?

Some of you may remember the siege of Baldur's Gate in 1351, and how events took place over the course of a day or a few days, but represented things occurring simultaneously in real terms. The same method will be adopted here. After an introductory briefing, there will be a number (depending on demand) of events over 27th and 28th, that will each take place simultaneously in IC terms, before being wrapped up by a single briefing.

This is an anti lag and DM workload measure.

How many events can I participate in, Golem?

Each PC can only take part in one event.

While players can bring alt characters to second events, each event is going to be capped for number of participants (likely eight to ten). As such I want to ask players to be considerate; and first refusal will be given to players who have not been to an event.

When will the events be?

The following is the timetable for events on 27th and 28th. All times GMT, as per the forum clock. More events may be added later!

27th July 2019

Briefing (all may attend) - 15:00 GMT

Event 1 - 18:00 GMT

Event 2 - 22:00 GMT

Event 3 - 22:00 GMT


28th July

Event 4 - 15:00 GMT

Event BONUS: 15:00 GMT

Event 5 - 18:00 GMT

Event 6 - 18:00 GMT

De-Briefing - 22:00 GMT. At this point all the preceding events are deemed to have happened.

How do I attend one of these events?

Please post in this thread as to which event you will attend and with which PC. Please only do this ONCE! Alt characters will be considered on the day once event attendance is determined.

Can I rp about the events on 27th July 2019 or 28th July 2019 before the debriefing.

No. The results don't go live until the debriefing.

What is the risk level of these events?

All my events have a caveat that exceptionally risky behaviour could lead to permastrikes. I give warnings when such behaviour is attempted.

One of the above events may be a "High Risk" event, but I will announce that closer to the time (and give options to those who do not wish for that)

Golem, how can you run all this? Some of the events are at the same time!

I'm not running it alone! DM Ghost has kindly offered to help as have other DMs. Its likely to be a mixed bag!

What if I can't make this weekend?

Post in this thread if you would like to be given an IC "role" for your PC while you are away. There are operations that PCs can be present at that won't be IG for this purpose, to help maintain character integrity.

I expect to be capable of attending Briefing and Event 4. Events 1, 5 and 6 may also be doable, but I'm likely to be a little late and can't guarantee that I'd be there for more than an hour.

That being said, I'm not sure whether my characters can reasonably participate:

• Shali is currently a level 17 arcane caster, and is unlikely to reach or exceed level 20 by the time of the event. If sufficient warning is provided, or if she 'happens' to be there at the time, she would likely be willing to help, but if she's unlikely to offer any meaningful support...
• There is a number of other characters, levels 5-10, who would be willing to participate (and much more likely to be present at the time). However, Shali's helpfulness is questionable at best - the others are virtually guaranteed to be useless.

Hello players, this was meant to convey that I am only interested in hearing about your attendance with one character ahead of time. One event attendance per player across all characters is all that is guaranteed here and we will only be considering alts on the day to flesh out numbers if needed, so please avoid making my job at timetabling harder by putting up multiple characters!

Those who have done so, can you edit so that I know which one you are putting forward?

I try and reward plot investment with more impact, and also account for IC factors; but I also try and cast the net as wide as possible for things that can be big open things
