Jerky Movement (Bug?)
Hello team,
Both me and Vox have been having an issue with movement on the server.
I returned from holiday and on 21st when I logged in I noticed that the character movement would be incredibly jerky - to the point of stop motion.
It does not appear to be a lag issue because my camera movement and any combat/idle animations are completely smooth. Camera panning also is without any issue whatsoever.
Using Strategy mode, the camera stays the same and the character model moves around in the same awkward manner.
It does not stop me from playing but it definitely gets on my nerves - I am hoping others have had this before and can recommend a fix.
Kind regards,
Druchii

Re: Jerky Movement (Bug?)
It also sometimes appears to be the camera itself that is jerkily following the travelling characters but I am not sure why the movement remains so stop-motiony if the camera doesnt even move.

Re: Jerky Movement (Bug?)
My character always jerks if he has a speed boost, it feels like it's a connection issue, like it takes time to communicate your position to the server. If I click more often it jerks more often... Dunno
Probably the reason we're not using the keyboard buttons to move

If you use client extension type /mpredict (like Steve said above).
if your client extension is older than october 2019, use also a FPS limiter. It is recommended to limit to 40 FPS. October 2019 release of CE doesn't need this FPS limiter. I used DXtory for that.

Oh somehow missed the /mpredict part
,
will give it a go, my client extension is quite new, how would I go about limiting the frames?

I use dxtory.
You must tell the program the FPS limit for your games. It's because NWN 2 doesn't know about multi cores CPU. An indice that you need it is if you see the tree leafs dancing as if in a storm. You can also type /showfps which enable/disable CE's framerate counter.
That said if you have the latest version of client extension (CE) you don't need to limit FPS because the CE take care of the multi cores.
When you launch NWN 2, with the CE, and if your version is not the latest, it asks you if you want to update.
if you want to see all CE command, type /help

Re: Jerky Movement (Bug?)
It should propose you to upgrade when you open then game.
Otherwise I found it here http://www.nynaeve.net/Skywing/NWN2/cli ... Latest.zip
Latest stable version is 1.0.0.30 it's main features are core affinity, server security, and high DP scaling of the UI (allowing to better read text on high resolution screen).
In the discord skywing provided screenshots of high resolution with and without DPI scaling and it's impressive, but I am not sure I am allowed to post them here. Anyway the staff is aware of that, and may provide more accurate information.
That said I did for a french server some tuto about the CE use and I can share them here if the staff agree.

Re: Jerky Movement (Bug?)
I've had the stop motion step happen to me when I would first log in and it would persist the entire time.
The only thing that fixed it for me was completely restarting my PC.
I don't know what causes it to start happening. But after a while it would come back and I'd have to restart again. (Which is annoying since I basically never turn my PC off or restart it.)
However, when I started using the client extension I haven't seen it happen since.
For those saying "/mpredict" I don't think you understand the issue. It's not like your PC is rubber-banding or anything related to your character bouncing back. It's like while walking your framerate starts crawling for no apparent reason causing it to be a very choppy looking motion, but while standing still everything is fine.

Re: Jerky Movement (Bug?)
Ladies and gents, thank you for your assistance.
The points go to those pointing at the client launcher, which I was not using up until now.
I've not retried it without but frankly so long as it works I am not interested in troubleshooting further unless someone specifically wants me to for X,Y,Z.
Thank you everyone who chipped in

Perhaps I don't understand the issue but look what Skywing write about the /mpredict (Skywing is the man who created the client extension) :Ewe wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 12:49 pm

It's like while walking your framerate starts crawling for no apparent reason causing it to be a very choppy looking motion, but while standing still everything is fine.
Point and click movement in the game world no longer waits for a response
from the server before beginning to animate movement. In some cases where
there are dynamic path obstructions, this might result in minor path
"glitching". You may disable this feature by using the /mpredict command.
Movement prediction only applies for point and click in the rendered game
window and not point and click in the area map. This feature improves
perceived responsiveness with respect to movement on laggy servers.
Usually the CE resolves problems where you move your PC and it returns back from where it was, move again.
Skywing also says this :
Animations (particularly terrain scrolling while walking) no longer begin to
stutter or "chunk up" in NWN2 after the computer has been running for several
days since its last reboot.
Now you're right the source of your problem maybe completely not related to the above.
