Wizard build

Unread post by Malice »

Hey :D

I wanted to RP a blood magus for a while, and I was aiming for a DC/full rounded caster.

I was thinking Wiz 5 / Blood Magus 7 / Archmage 8 / ASOC 10

Yes? No?

Pros:
High CL (29 + 3 from BM + 3 from AM)
High base DC
Lots of feats overlapping, leaving space for 2 free feats plus the epics.
Improved quicken to make people crazy in PVP and to have more versatility
1 great focus (ench? conj?) + 1 epic focus (necromancy, I'd say).

Cons:
You lose the epic free wiz feat at 10, but it's not that essential.

Any further advice? I am not a great builder!

Questions:
1. What would you change? Is it a shitty buildup? People don't seem to fond for mixing AM and ASOC together
2. Would you get a second great focus with your free feat, or extend/craft wands/something else?

I would advise against against 3 CL through the AM class as that does not equal DC and you would lose a 9th level spell. I mean CL 35 sounds pretty good and would end up giving you 3 extra DC with these +6 CL overall but the cost is posted steep.
Something to consider is that the BM bloodseeking spell only works on offensive spells so not in buffs but more important is an automatic consent to pvp so its use might be more limited than you might like.

Improved quicken can be very very nice indeed, I would almost have to suggest transmutation and augment form, they would allow you to get a medium BAB when transformed which is insanely strong. It's not very, magey to run around in devil form but it's very strong especially if you use it to tank for your super strong vampires, super strong offensively but super weak in terms of AC.

I am not so sure if AM is all that great if you are only looking for DC but a thing to consider would be Wiz10/BM6/AM4/ASoC10.
That would stay away from the 3rd caster level bonus which most people advise against due to its cost but would offer another feat thanks to 10 levels of Wizard.
The BM feat you lose is kind of absolete if you have a regen cloak.

Me neither, Chad could probably give you better advise XD.

My own build is currently Wiz15/AM8/ASoC7 and it's at least decent, my wail has a DC of 39. I might want ASoC10 for the improved quicken but I am not sure if it's worth the loss of my Int 36 really.

I find extend very useful especially for create greater undead and haste but also other essential buffs.

I hope I helped you a little and did not add to your possible confusion.

True on the AM costs, although +3 CL and +1 DC doesn't seem bad. You could also make up for the lost slot with SLA and through scars and bm potions

Thanks for the advices! Another class I considered was Shadow Adept - don't know whether it's best to fit it with Arcane Scholar or Archmage though. I'd need 40 levels and PRC :D

Other idea, with a slightly different RP flavour, could be
W6, BM4, SA 10, PM10

God I am so torn :D
