It's difficult to manage all of this gear. I once sold a robe with a 4th wizard spell slot on it by accident. I vowed to never let that happen to me again.
Enter the Icon Changer. You can find it by using an appearance changer kit. Look for the icon changer as one of the last options.
First: Put the item whose icon you want to change in your first inventory slot. Then shuffle your stuff so there are no gaps in your inventory. Next, select the icon changer in your appearance changer kit.
Then click next until the icon looks the way you want.
The result is you can color-coordinate your gear. Like so:
