Hair Colour Changes

Unread post by cosmic ray »

It seems the last update has introduced some changes to hair colours.

I am not sure I've pinpointed the source, but one of them seems to be that now the hair accessory colour changes the hair colour of moon elves' hair. Because of this, it is no longer possible to have a moon elf with black hair. My character now has light grey over her formerly black hair and in the screenshow below you can see the darkest possible hue that the palette allows for this hairstyle.

Would it be possible to fix this or revert the change entirely? I'm not sure what it's trying to achieve.

For now, here is what you can do. Download United Colors, for which I'll provide the link. Make the hair accessory black. Then follow the steps to change your character's hair style/color!

What was changed with the hairs was a fix that allowed the hairs to no longer clip when putting on helmets and hoods. Some hairs didn't suffer this issue but materials of the hair weren't working properly. The hair is the same color but now the specularity maps of the hairs are working giving the hairs a light shine thus allowing the normal (bump) maps to work as intended. The material that was injected into hairs was necessary to be usable in the future.

No tint maps were changed and the tints always allowed for tri color change meaning that all three hair channels for these hairs control the hair to allow for various colors. This is an example of what a current tint map looks like.

as it appears just green and red, there are hints of blue in the gradient that allow for the hair highlight option to influence.

You can always use the addon mentioned AgentOrange to try and achieve the same effect.

TLDR: The hairs were fixed to allow the hairs to shine (show specularity) as originally intended. The hair is still black, just the light reflects off of it a little more making it seem less black

I think for this hairstyle at least the sheen may be a little too much, although the idea is cool.

Will that method for changing hairstyle and colour also change skin and eye colour?

No, only at char creation right now, but I doubt it's difficult to expand the existing tool.

its impossible for a hair tint map to effect the face and eye color so you should be safe there. :)
