Background
Wulfrik was born and raised in the city of Holgerstead on the Isle of Ruathym to an ulfhednar berserker - Hans, son of Tör, and his wife Inge - a maiden renown for her red beauty. His father was known to be a brave but unscrupulous man who made his wealth by raiding in its seasons, but had a reputation for picking feuds with men wealthier but weaker than himself and taking what was theirs through dueling.
Sigurd son of Tarben was a friend to the family. A serpent and a swordsman renown as a roving wanderer of the realms, who had long time secretly coveted the young mother of Wulfrik for himself and been denied. During an adventure to the ancient ruins of Ithnar, Sigurd killed Hans and put him down the hole there that they say leads to to Hel.
Wulfrik learned of these things when Sigurd returned to take his mother Inge. When the evil Sigurd had done came to light in Holgerstead (as evil always does) Sigurd made an escape for the adventure of the mainland leaving Wulfrik's family destroyed. Young Wulfrik nursed his grudge, supping often on the obsessive hatred of the son of Tarben - it made the boy grim from an early age. That boy followed in his father's footsteps, giving his youthful years freely to live lawless in nothing sewn or knit, but the skins of wolves. He learned the secrets of the land, the old ways, and survived from what he and his band of brothers undertaking the rite could take in wild game and from 'raiding' the villages of the isle.
Wulfrik ran down the path of the wolf-warrior. The day came when he had grown into his fullness of strength in manhood - when he knew he had the skill of arms, the cunning and the iron will to wreak the red revenge that had warmed the furnace of his wrath all these years. Rather than returning to the society and law of the land, Wulfrik wet his sword on the son of Sigurd and then sailed. It was red revenge that would lure Wulfrik far away from the roots of his ancestors. A red revenge that would become the catalyst of a saga scarred with iron quill deep into the soils of a foreign land, and the souring of the seas with the blood of friend and foemen alike.
Goals
To raise a Hall in the region and fill it with heroes - preferably on an island in the Sea of Swords that can serve as a trade post facilitating mercantile exchanges between Baldur's Gate and the Islands.
To accumulate great wealth and material resources to build and crew a small fleet of dragon ships that could be hired by regional powers as a mercenary navy.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts
In Ruathym before he left, Wulfrik killed Harvard the Skald, son of Sigurd, by the sword of his father Hans. Wulfrik sailed away to the Sword Coast after this deed, and for deceit took the name of the slain son of Sigurd. On the Sword Coast and in the Western Heartland 'Harvard' roved and wandered. Many deeds were pursued to the glory of the name of Harvard Sigurdsson. Deeds to achieve such glory that Sigurd himself would seek him out, thinking his son had come to renown. And so it happened that they met, quite unexpectedly, one night in Soubar. And Wulrik, revealed to all, under the eyes of his father and the line of his people took vengeance.
