Physical description:
The stout sailor could almost pass for a Rashemi, sporting a full, yet trimmed dark brown beard and honey brown eyes. However, he was considerably taller, and those familiar with the Gurri culture would soon identify him as one of Selûne’s children.
High exposure to the sun gave him a strong tan, also highlighting aging lines on his forehead and corner of his eyes, making him look older than he actually was.
Vastian wore a pair of silver earrings on his left lobe, as well as an assortment of rings on his fingers – some magical, others purely aesthetical. A silver medallion with seven small stars inlaid in platinum contrasted the dark skin of his chest.
His shoulder-length hair was slightly wavy and poorly kept in a fragile bun on the back of his head.
Vastian spoke with a husky bass-baritone voice, and his accent was evident.

Background:
Vastian's childhood and youth were quite typical for a Gur. Born and raised among many other children of the highway, he was accustomed to life in community. It was on an early age that he discovered a knack for entertainment, partaking in small performances with other caravan's minstrels to the locals of the cities they traveled by. It was said Vastian danced before he could walk - whether that was true or not, his talent was undeniable.
He was many things, and they all converged into one big trait: his curiosity. Young Vastian's eyes marveled at every landscape his caravan traveled by. He was amazed to see the diversity of cultures, races and creeds on each stop. His wanderlust, however, never halted, and eventually found the land too limiting. He would soon discover the sea.
As a young sailor, he relied on his knowledge of the lands and on being a child of Selûne to earn the respect of his crew. Within years, Vastian went from deckhand to navigator, becoming quite competent at his craft. His roots were never forgotten, earning him quite the reputation for befriending bards, minstrels and entertainers found on each port, often partaking in their performances.
It was circa 1345 when Vastian met Dara, an adventurer who happened to board his ship on the Moonsea. Both grew fond of each other and eventually became lovers. That bond lasted for a few years, despite their fickle lifestyles and from that union came Ieriyn, named after the guiding star. Dara, however, died during labor.
The following years were challenging, but Vastian managed to raise Ieriyn as he could with the aid of some of his allies. Due to disagreements with his former crew and the conflicts on the Moonsea, Vastian fled to the Sword Coast, where he'd find a contact somewhere near Baldur's Gate who would help him find a safe place to establish himself and raise his daughter.
Current goals:
• Provide safe housing and proper education for his daughter
• Get back into seafaring, preferably with better pay
• Find other Gur and reconnect with his culture
• Meet with the local clergy of Selûne
Plot hooks and misc facts:
• Vastian didn’t leave his former crew on the best terms. His old captain considers him in debt for fleeing.
• Ieriyn was a half-elf and Vastian tried to honor that by passing on the little he knew about the Elven culture and language.
