Issue with shapechanging

Unread post by yyj »

Several players report that when shapeshifting back to normal form with less than 1/3 their HP, it kills them.

Reports say that if your CON is closer to the form you are shifting into, you may survive, but other times it leaves you at 1 HP.

A workaround suggested is maybe to make a script that always leaves you or heals you after shifting to 1hp at least.

And idea I had is to make the death from that thing register and raise the player on the spot but that is probably too much trouble.

It seems this affects all classes, druids, warlocks and arcanes that can shapechange.

Just to chime in, 9 out of 10 times when i shapeshift with low HP, I end up at 1hp. If something hits me or spawns and kills me thats bad luck called life.

However, about 1 in 10, I just instantly die.

Both times I have pretty much all the same buffs. Yesterday was one of the 1 outta 10 times, and realised that i actually had the planar deva out, and he does cast mass Aid? Maybe that is what changes between the tries.. Will test maybe if someone wants to give me a hand with aid & ress in some 8 hours or so *puppyeyes*.

With the shapeshift form having more Con than out of form, you still end up with 1hp normally, so i dont think it is the "your shapeshift has more con and you die because you lose that". Reason I brought this up yesterday at a conversation was to learn what buffs are some that you need to watch out for before shapeshifting off, tried to be very carefull and had everything cleared from enemies, went through all my character sheets to make sure i had no debuffs that will kill me when i shape off.. and still ended up at the fugue.

I use to run around as a shapeshifter warlock, so i found a connection between PC CON and shape CON. The more is the spread, the higher remaining hp one should have before unshaping.

As YYJ mentioned, having lower than 1/3 hp while shapeshifted becomes a lottery where prize is getting to 1 hp, while other options make you die instantly. That's even more annoying considering current server stability. I died because of crash while i had low hp shapeshifted at least twice in the month.
The issue with shapeshifting is that only druids are somewhat protected from it as they can cast spells with corresponding feat.

As of inventory, polyspellfix works totally correct, denying any usage of wands/scrolls, item equipping/unequipping. The only things that don't glow red are potions and, as far as i remember, medkits.

Having inventory accessible during shapeshifting would make this behaviour a feature. Lorewise, all the wounds shape possesses should retain in unshaped state thus being wounded that badly to instantly die exiting the shape is something i would consider lore-friendly. But mechanical limitations not allowing shapeshifted creatures to drink a potion are a bit odd. We can assume the whole inventory goes away, but what denies one from putting some backup potion storage to ground before shapeshifting and accessing it when needed or even reequipping it after shaping? I know that having a cat applying medkit to itself is not that lore-friendly too, but i suggest this being a milder issue comparing the insta-death effects and inability to heal while shapeshifted.

Barbarian rage has a feature to not drop the PC to negative HP when the rage ends. This prevents death. Maybe it can be applied to unshapeing?

I did something else, it will heal you to full before the polymorph effect removal then damage you to get back the same HP ratio as you had before unpolymorphing. Will have to wait for a server update though.

Could a similar fix be done for Tenser's Transformation expiration? Managed to fugue myself a couple times since for whatever reason if you have Bear's Endurance applied prior to Tenser's, even through the +CON bonus shouldn't stack, you still get bonus hp equal to x2 your HD. Once Tenser's runs out, you lose the same amount of hp, and since you can't use potions due to the spell failure, you can't always top yourself off prior to taking the hit.

Will it help with server crashes while someone is under 1/3 HP while poly?

This one was mostly fixed by Valefort with very rare occasions of dying.
