Packhorse

Unread post by Silvermane »

where can I find info on the packhorse function, what its for, does it have to be out all the time, or does it have a hide widget, or a place you have to take it to to stable it etc...

Really, I do have a lot of questions, but the search function, doesn't seem to be functioning for me

the search function seems to have been borked since the website had an issue a few days ago.

What I can tell you about pack animals is:
  • Pack animals can be purchased in all major settlements at Stablemasters. Most have blue names, some unique NPCs also offer stable services.
  • Stablemasters can stable a pack-animal that is following you to remove it from the world, but it can only be retrieved there (I think).
  • Any stablemaster can 'retrieve' pack animals from anywhere on the server if they are not stabled (Seems to be free).
  • Different classes of horse have different strength scores which can affect their encumberence limits and speed, but all have a carry limit of 100 item stacks (noteworthy since the saddlebag container has a capacity of 132. any items over 100 will be dropped on the ground).
  • If a pack-animal dies, you cannot access the inventory until you purchase another (Limit 1 pack animal per character).
  • The inventory of a pack animal is saved between animals and deaths in most cases.
  • The only time a pack animal inventory is not saved is if you have removed the saddlebags and adjusted the contents. Replacing the saddlebags will save it again.
  • When following you, the pack-animal will break domination if it enters combat for any reason or you rest.
When talking to a pack-animal, you can instruct it to follow you, drop saddlebags so you can adjust the inventory, or rename the creature (if it has a generic name, usable once). If it is already following you, that option will be replaced with "tie the creature down" which will fix it's positions between resets. Most people just leave them at a stable and summon where needed.

Due to various issues I've seen with the Domination effect, I strongly recommend tieing your pack-animal down before resting if you use it to follow you.

In addition to horses, I overheard someone mention Elemental Haulers are also available... "down south." Was this an RP reference, or can we in fact use one of these instead of a horse? ((Note: I have seen a handful in-game and I assumed they were associated with the Techsmiths of Gond)). Thank you!

Cheers!

You can get the haulers in Rockrun, and Bugbear servants in Sshamath itself.
Aurelien Amon: Human fighter, member of the Whitewood Vanguard, Hoarite

Lotrik: Not a wise Genasi, probably stronger than you tho, a master of longswords. Fully retired

Bob Thairo: Dreadknight of Bane, Back on the Coast, tyranning away with his wife

thank you greatly for the detailed response! I was thinking when I seen them that those were pretty cool, but then I heard that little voice of responsibility and taking care of it and its safety.

Hmm Bugbear servant walking around in Baldur's Gate. Sounds like a trip worth making.
If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.

You are most welcome, Silvermane. As someone who has decided to take their horse with them almost everywhere*, I have found it quite helpful to understand the limitations of the style, and I'm glad to hear such insights are useful to others than just myself.
:)

Cheers,
Kit
