Random Item Generator (RIG)

Unread post by Thaelis »

I noticed that elemental resistance on items from RIG are 5% or 10% immunity, rather than a flat damage reduction X like in PnP.

I'd suggest:

5% immunity ---> DR 3/-

10% immunity ---> DR 5/-

I realize that the % stacks, and you could in theory reach 90% immunity to a single element if you really tried to, but in my opinion DR would make the items much more useful in more situations, easier to mix and match multiple resistances and also make finding RIG items more exciting (A helm of +3 AC, Fire resistance 5 is a lot more useful than 10% fire resistance in most scenarios)

It would also be good for PvP balance with high level Evokers, because the resistance couldn't stack to infinity.

Anyway, in short I think in this particular case we could make the game more true to PnP and more fun at the same time :mrgreen:

But, in epic areas, those 5 dr against fire mean nothing taking into account epic fire traps that can hit one for 200 dmg. That's where % immunities, even 10%, become much more valuable than flat DR.

Yeah I suppose in some situations it is definitely better, it's just those ones are kinda rare. I've never seen elemental damage over 100 much less 200 and I've been playing here a few years! Not to say it doesn't exist, just rare.

Personally I'd rather have the DR. It just makes more sense to me and is one of the few things 3E really improved on over AD&D (which is where the % resistance harks back to).

Thanks for the reply :D

Well, i totally like your idea as on lower levels, with 15 dmg cold traps that you can deduct by 1/3 is something not to underestimate. This sounds like a good idea, but it needs a good simple guide on DR for players since most of DR doesn't stack.

They tend to be quite good especially for Paladins, Barbarians and Fighters with 8 levels, using heavy armor, as they get % immunity for elements.
