Please make chest and gold openable

Unread post by ARHicks00 »

Stop having piles of gold and treasure chest that you can't click on. Anyone who has done Graypeaks and other epic level dungeons. I'm getting tired of looking at whole bunch of treasure and pile of gold, but only being able to grab one treasure chest and one gold. Epic level dungeon especially should offer better loot and MORE LOOT.

When going back through dungeons, I've tried to remove static (un-openable) chests from the level. Especially for areas where the chests are randomized, this is very misleading to players. Unfortunately, balancing loot is a little tricky, so I haven't been making those chests useable, just removing them.

It's definitely a good request, and I'm opening a bug reporting thread for it:

Another option would be add more "Chest" that turn into mimics.

Loot stays the same but the location of Chest vs mimic changes places randomly

Another good idea! But I already had that one. :D

Everywhere that has mimics uses the chest randomizer, so chests and mimics can change places randomly. When I remove static chests from randomized areas, I usually place a spawn waypoint there so that a chest or mimic can appear there. In non-randomized areas, I just remove the chest.

I do not subscribe to the 'what you see is what you get' option of RP, and would hate to have our designers hemmed up by unreasonable demands. I can understand the thought process behind the request, but does it really hurt to RP that what you get is what you've determined is the best of the lot, or something? Do you also RP that the same chest magically creates stuff for the next guy that opens it behind you?

The chests add ambiance, unless they are entirely overdone. Seems like an odd thing to worry about to me.

We train players to recognize chests as rewards. It's a confusing signal if some of the things they're trained to recognize are not actually rewards. Putting ambient chests in dungeons that aren't interactive or don't contain loot is a bad design practice. (Placing them in areas where players do not expect loot, such as residences and inns should be fine, but it would be better if those chests served as access to something like a persistent storage.)

I agree however. Creature could hoard chest/barrels and other such containers full of random junk for all we know. Random gold piles do seem weird unless at least one part of it is clickable

So how do we RP leaving some of the gold behind when we hit that clickable gold pile? How about barrels, are those ok?

I'd say that if we "train players" to do anything here, it is to come to the forums and make unreasonable demands.

"Stop having piles of gold and treasure chest that you can't click on."

Thats a fabulous way to motivate builders.

I mean if I do epic level dungeons, the last you want to get is 38gp? Both RP and player wise, people will avoid dangerous areas if there is no good loot to be found. (No one wants to waste health kits, potions, and raise dead scrolls to make 100gp in 45 min dungeon) For example, epic level players, including myself use to run low level areas before it got revamped because the loot was identical to epic level areas. Now all we get is anywhere between 29 to 19gp going through the graveyard. I totally understand why it was done. It was to discourage high level players from farming low level areas, but when I do high level areas sometimes, the treasures aren't worth. (Graypeaks Mountains) But might grip more than what the chest contain is having a lot of chest or gold piles in front of you, but only being able to touch one chest or one gold pile out of that mountain of chest and gold. We talk about realism, but that wouldn't work in a fantasy world were you fight dragons and have magical satchel bag to carry a whole bunch of stuff. My character can currently carry 700lbs worth of stuff and still have reflex save in his 20s while fighting with a tower shield.

All I'm saying is, not demanding, but asking for prompts to be to interact with and maybe more of incentive to do epic level stuff too..but mostly interaction.

Huh. I'm not sure what the issue is here. This is the right forum to come give my suggestion to? This is suggestion forums right? By no means am I being sarcastic or cynical, but this is like me going to help desk and being redirect to the parking lot after asking where the vegetable aisle is. I came to make the suggestion we need more prompts to interact with because even few players I have played with have somewhat joked and complained about having a lot chest and gold pieces in dungeons, but only being able to interact with one or two. I'm pretty sure the whole server isn't complaining, but I thought I still throw that out there.

As for training up part, I believe he/she meant that players are use to getting rewards for task. Moreover, getting better rewards for each task that gets more dangerous. As I said, I understand why they level based the rewards in low level areas, but then I am seeing equally bad loot in higher level dungeons. However, I would first like to see more prompts, mainly treasure chest and gold piles, being more interactive than just better loot, but it doesn't hurt to mention it in the same topic.

Now as for what you believe. You believe RP is it itself a reward, which is fine for players who are not gear dependent. But gear dependent players like Fighter, Rangers, Rogue, and to a certain extend Monks require better gear to do better or money to buy supplies like potions/health kits, which means they need better rewards in high level dungeons. Past DMs and players have agree that the magic class are superior over the non-magic class which is what this server is based around. Therefore, if you do a dungeon without at least one magic class in you group, it can be extremely difficult to get through whereas most magic classes can get through dungeons with little trouble. Potions, scrolls, and wands all have limits, especially when duration and dispel come into play.

So this is why many non-level 30 and non-magical players aren't sitting in front of a campfire telling stories or asking about someone's day. Mind you, I do roleplay at a campfire, but also when out and about too as roleplaying isn't confined to just a campfire. However because I am playing a non-magical character, I have no choice, but to spend 50% of my time adventure to either replace any potions, health kits, scrolls, and wands I lose. This stuff can cost me 20k, the equipment I need to buy cost between 200k to 800k and the amount of gold I make maybe 5k if I'm lucky. 40k if I do multiple high level dungeons. And because I have a work schedule and two kids to take care of as a single father, doing this type of stuff and getting together with others is difficult. I have to OOC track down players in order to join them for a dungeon run before they get too deep in. If I didn't do that, I would end up logging out a lot (which I did a lot at one point) or I would be forced to grind. (which I did a lot of and still do)

BTW, I like to do both roleplay and go out to find adventure. Roleplaying for character building and interactions, but adventuring to see what my character is made of and taking pride in what I made.

So is this thread you wanting more loot, or you wanting inactive chests removed from the areas?

Because those are two very different things.

Are you reading my threads or skimming over them? I make very elaborate posting explaining what I am looking for. I mentioned want to have more usable chest prompts and gold pile, but I also noted, "Having better loot for epic level dungeons...I just thought I throw that in there." Meaning even if that (better loot) doesn't happen, it would be nice to at least get what you see in terms of gold pieces and treasure chest.

First prior to is to make more interactive chest and gold pile, but I am also throwing out the idea of better loot in epic level dungeons. But for the most part, more interactive reward prompts.

I'm for this idea too. :)

I want epic level mimic to either cause aliments or instant death if you fail a fort save. Maybe have a nice reward for being it? Or a Giant mimic for big chest.

I guess we differ in what we consider elaborate.

It sounds to me, in this elaborate paragraph, that you are asking for piles of gold and treasure chests to be removed if they aren't active, because you grow tired of looking at them.

And then you ask for MORE LOOT.

So, both I guess?

I responded to the first request - removing inactive treasure nodes - because to me it seems like unreasonable busy work, in a game where we use our imaginations to side step the 'what you see is what you get' all the time. But a dev already took up the call, so I guess thats going to happen. Doesn't mean I won't speak my mind though.

I'm not commenting on your elaborate request for additional loot. Those threads have been well-participated in recently.

Never said this, but okay. I don't want them to be removed so to speak, but just stop having the practice of non-interactive prompts. Maybe I should have added more context or at least I thought my follow up post would have taken care of that.

Better loot, not necessarily more (though more loot through more interactive chest/piles) :?

I'm not against anyone speaking their mine. :?

All I'm saying is (or asking in this case) make the extra chest and gold piles interactive. I noted that getting better loot at epic levels would be cool too, but if it doesn't happen still cool beans. I'm just throwing the idea out there.
