Abjuration Focus Line

Unread post by TheKai »

Hey all,

Since Evocation, Necromancy, Transmutation, and Conjuration had some tweaks to their usefulness, I'd like to recommend something for Abjurers (although I think Illusionists, Enchanters and Diviners really need some love too).

The recommendation is to further tie abjuration to protection, specifically from magic. So if someone takes SF: Abj they also get Improved Counterspelling Bonus feat. GSF: Abj also gives Reactive Counterspelling feat and ESF: Abj gives Epic Counterspelling. This seems fun. People can already counterspell bosses, this just gives abjurers and added benefit.

Thanks for suggestion, it's in the list of our discussed topics for quite a while, so we will add something eventually :)

How is shapeshifting related to concentration checks and DC? The only thing they should be afraid of is true form spell, don't they?

Well, i solved the riddle. True form is abjuration spell. But still, adding counterspell feats as bonus to abjuration focus doesn't change anything, people will still get their 3 DC with ESF:Abjuration whether is is added or not.

Sounds like it would make abjuration pretty good. Exciting!

Yeah, it works. Not for warlocks, but testing with wizzy and sorc, it worked fine

Sorry I was recently looking into Counterspelling and was curious if that suggestion had gotten any further along?

Nothing would be added as both are accessible, it was just attaching one line to the Abjurative focus as it does make sense since Abjuration is beating magic with magic.

Not the best attitude even at the best of times, but for some context:
  • AFAIK, nearly none of the new spells were Abjuration. Maybe one or two, usually flat-out inferior to existing counterparts (like the non-breaching Disjunction variant Rhifox added to some domains).
  • Several other focus trees have had tangential benefits added to them. Evocation got Reignite Evocation (3 spell levels per feat, like an Auto-Still/Auto-Silent feat), Transmutation got +1 AC in Polymorph/Shapechange (per feat), and Conjuration/Necromancy got +1 HD to the summons from their respective schools (also per feat).
In that context, your retort goes from needlessly hostile to outright foolish, since abjurers didn't get a lot of new stuff to begin with, except as a tangent on other people getting stuff.
