Underdark and surface complexes

Unread post by Azroth »

I recall stating I would write about this a long while ago, so here we go...

The topic is primarily how the Underdark at times will mesh with Surface worlds. I shall keep it as brief as possible for easy legibility.

1) The Gods
- Some Drow gods agendas are linked heavily to interspecies relations to reconnect with the surface world. Some Gods, not so much the followers, as I would argue that followers of the gods on average don't know what the god's plan step by step, have agendas where they cross over between realms to further it's aim and goals.

2) Business
- At times surfacers see Drow as a source of coin and goods. Coin talks to some nations and it's people. There are in fact lore links to from Underdark city trade on the surface to the unscrupulous. Etc.

3) Personal.
- On occasion, you will see the tension between both sides and when sh*t hits the fan, one side may utilize one or the other. Eilistraee followers can make great spies to help hunt other Drow, to be used in the end, if a Drow works with them, it just means they die last in some cases, but not always. And same goes with a Drow trying to manipulate a surfacer to spy on his or her enemies and be used to get the upper hand.

4) Other
- There are groups in-game much like cannon where they cross over between each other and cooperate, often one is using the other for further gain.

5) Sources.
- I encourage others to research older source material to help gain an understanding of the world their characters live in. Sourced websites for knowing what sourcebooks are out there is under the TSR Archives website and one can also use the Forgotten Realms Helps website for lore blurbs up to 3.5e - I discourage the use of the forgotten realms wiki as it has so many who edit and throw random nonsense in there at times or even overwrite some older lore edits to make way for retcons giving contradictions along the way. Sourcebooks will always be your best bet out there either way, and I recommend one goes back into AD&D then move on up the editions one at a time.
After years of trying to give others a chance to prove to me they can shape up here, I have run out of patience. The numbers of nwn2 overall dropping in the past few years have told me the path others truly want to take. Actions speak louder than words.

It's not worth the investment.
