which class for best SLIME build?

Unread post by Ahku »

yeah, i know...a slime?!?!

FYI - I also have a PnP character that is a MIMIC (the smaller, more intelligent ones that can speak)!
(great fun too)

So i was wondering what the best build would be for a slime / ooze based character?
( i figured a druid, but are there other options, or any recommended druid builds to try?)

just curious ;-p

(i plan on turning the character over to a young family member when they visit)

Shifter has the only accessibility right now to a slime variant the gelatinous cube. Idk if survivability is in the cards but I did find that shape underwhelming compared to counterparts. If 'power' is not an issue and they just want to slime around which I was in glee when I turned into the shape, its a gelatinous cube how can you not be. But again it underperforms IMO, but to become a shifter you either go Druid or Wizard.

Depends on the D&D edition... But if 3rd, go for Ranger, get Two-weapon Fighting Combat Style, and then Brutal Throw and Quick Draw feats, which allows you to use Throwing Weapons in both melee and in ranged combat, and increase both damage and AB with just one ability score: Strength. If you then scour the books, and other home brewed stuff, for some other feats or abilities that allows your slime to form multiple appendages to throw those axes... You will have more ranged and melee attacks per round than a Hydra.

But in some other edition of D&D, I would just go for a Wizard.

Okay,

It would be really cool if the gelatinous cube version for shifter had sub-forms for oozes or slimes...now that would be great fun!

As we all know that some oozes / slimes have VERY good combat attributes (toughness, damage resist vs weapon types, etc...).

I wonder if the shifter class can be tweaked to allow the taking of sub-forms rather than 'other' forms entirely?

A really easy solution to this would be for the devs to just make a unique -> swarm <- ability for the cube that summons three oozes. Their HD dependent on shifter level. Also I would make it either no CD or a very low cool down considering the swarm spell and the oozes will likely be a short lived effect.

Just something I thought would be relatively lower effort and faster to put out that allows the usage of slime / ooze trait in a bigger scale.
