Advice on ToG builds

Unread post by Gedrin »

Hi there.... I um... would not characterize myself as an expert builder... And so I come seeking some critiques and advice.

I have not played here in a long long... long time and upon be return I see this Techsmith of Gond prc https://bgtscc.fandom.com/wiki/Techsmith_of_Gond

I play a mid level Bard and its not too painful to RCR him into something that could pursue this.
Tracking is thoroughly enmeshed in his rp concept and I have no wish to upset that applecart. So as you review these... Tracking is a must have. :)

I used Whirling Dervish to represent ToG since it has the same HD and Disable Device, Lock are class skills [it gives too many skill points at 6+INT but I was very careful in manual accounting]

TLDR: I am leaning towards #4 if you only care to look at one of these.

1) https://nwn2db.com/build/?355426 Rog3/Rng3/Bard15/ToG9 : my first crack but does not have Requiem... but I have heard Requiem is quite nice so...

2) https://nwn2db.com/build/?355449 Rog3/Rng3/Bard17/ToG7 w/Artist & Requiem : I am really hoping that as per https://nwn2db.com/library/feats/?backg ... n#item_378 this really will mean a Bard 17 has the 20/day songs needed for Requiem.

3) But those 9th level ToG Bombs look like just the sort of mayhem I'm looking for so...
https://nwn2db.com/build/?355451 Rog3/Bard17/ToG10 w/Artist & Requiem

4) But lastly... the smite construct of ToG 10 seemed of little utility so:
https://nwn2db.com/build/?355453 Rog4/Bard17/ToG9 w/Artist & Requiem

I have flexibility on some of the feats... in fact I did not even select one for the lvl 18 slot in most of these
Also I think I need to clarify the skill qualifications. wiki still says Craft Weapon but viewtopic.php?p=940255#p940255 said
Techsmith of Gond
* Now requires Craft (Engineering) in place of Craft Weapon.

Anyway sage advice is most welcome... particularly if have missed some detail that makes the build invalid. That would make me sad.

Thanks

ps... lol and within moments I am already thinking... why Rog4 and not Bard18...

Thanks Nathe;

While I am sure there exists better ToG builds I should have been more specific.

I was more looking for "tweaks" to this build that may be missing. You see I am not looking for the most power built version of a ToG.
I already have the Character/RP concept....
A crazy Gnome that believes his gadgets are powered by "technomagic?" as inspired by his god Gond.
[I prefer to come up with a concept that amuses me and create a build to fit that... not so much the other way 'round]

So what I was looking for was mostly summed up by:
particularly if have missed some detail that makes the build invalid

Such as.... on BGTSCC does Artist count as 3 bard songs a day as per: [the ingame description does not mention this]?

you see:
https://nwn2.fandom.com/wiki/Artist says Errata
The manual says Artist grants +2 Perform and +3 Bardsongs per day, but this is incorrect.

apparently Kaedrin's Pack fixes this so that:
https://nwn2.fandom.com/wiki/Kaedrin%27s_Pack_Feat_List
Character gains a +2 bonus on Perform and Diplomacy checks. Moreover, 3 uses/day of bardsong added. These count as bard levels when qualifying for feats such as Battle Dancer and Song of Requiem.

So I am uncertain.

I was also looking for opinions on whether I "should" [ie its worth it] to take Artist so that I can eventually get Requiem
If I take some other level-1 only feat like "luck of Heroes" and going with the 3 levels of Ranger I can only get Epic feats like Epic Tough and Armor Skin [seems ho humm] but its a build that fits the RP concept well enough.
