Can we have special magic items made or quested for?

Just curious about something...

I've always wanted to try a dwarven fighter or cleric with a Dwarven Thrower (can be thrown and returns, etc...)

Would there be a method to build or quest for such an item?

I dont think throwing hammers exist - especially one that returns once thrown. I'd use throwing axes. That's what we used back in my day. And by gum- we liked it!
